What happened to LucasArts?
What's the reason behind using the old name that was changed to avoid confusion with film productions?

Sulibor: Consumer friendly monetization expert?
That is oxymoron.
Sadly it looks like it will be action game. I had some hopes when I saw Machine Games behind it (Wolfenstains were really well made and interesting games) but monetization aspect doesn't bode well.
Not that I support such practices, there are ways to be consumer friendly and still have something to make money with.
Let's say they create a DLC that changes the protagonist from Indiana Jones to Darth Vader. I'm sure many would buy it just for the fun factor of having Darth Vader doing all kinds of whip acrobatics in the game. But it wouldn't matter if you just bought the base game alone, because such DLCs are basically useless.

It's Disney, so they could offer all kinds of crazy DLCs from Mickey Mouse to Pinocchio.
Maybe they won't do any of that, but there are ways to do things like that. If they go for something like buying health restore with real money, that's another story then. That would be simply disrespectful towards fans.

Or at least until the GOG version, as such would likely strip out such aspects.

I remember a time when these chaps called game modders would make such content for free, so people could add it to their game copies. I miss those times.

(yeah modding still happens, but less and less...or it gets tied to a storefront, or locked down to members of a modding site only)

MachineGames normally makes FPS's (i.e. see Wolfenstein Reboot series).

So, what is this Indiana Jones going to be like? Is this going to be a Tomb Raider Reboot style game? Uncharted style game?
A live service, microtransaction/monetisation focused Indiana Jones just sounds so mind-boggling that it gives me hope that those roles are being sought for some other game they are developing.

An adventure game is incredibly unlikely, but I'd be very disappointed with an Uncharted style, or even (old) Tomb Raider style game. Since it is Machinegames, I have a small amount of hope that it'll be something on the quality level of their first Wolfenstein game, with some Indy flavour.

They probably want to keep the game company more tied to their own IP, meaning that they are going to publish only games related to Lucasfilm movies (mainly Star Wars and indiana Jones series).
Anyway I feel I'm happy with it: I prefer to nostalgically remember LucasArts as it was in the golden age of videogame.
Let's see what they come up with and judge it then. At least the franchise will be seeing some action after too many years of absence.

I'd assume third person in the style of Uncharted. It'll be interesting to see what they come up with, i'd think we'll probably see Uncharted/Modern Tomb Raider with a lot of utility with the whip...and a shoe-horned in perk system because every modern game has them haha
Meh, it'll just be an Uncharted/Nu-Tomb Raider clone.
MachineGames is the dev and they are 'looking into consumer friendly microtransactions'

This game will be trash.

LucasArts got axed (along with a lot of other things) pretty soon after the Disney buyout.

Anyway, we can expect the game to most likely be trying to hook up with the movies in some way to promote brand milking, meaning it's gonna suck. The best thing about the older games was that they did their own thing.

This is definitely not going to threaten the best Indiana Jones game, which is Infernal Machine.

It's really clever if you think about it. People are going to, or rather already are, longing for normalcy, something nostalgic an safe. And adventure! Finally to go and explore again. And it's not that difficult to get the youth on board if you put the right modern, with the times feel to it. And it's disney, you know that is their bread and butter. So here comes Indy-J, the youtube / twitch streamer adventurer.

Hey guys it's Dr. Jones, AKA Indy jaaaaaay. Welcome to my stream. Today I'd like to tell you how much I enjoy Disney plus. But first whip that subscribe button.
MachineGames is trash, so nothing to get excited about.

rtcvb32: Hmm sounds like another possible point&click game.
Vanishingly unlikely. Point and clicks haven't been a big money genre for over 20 years. It'll be some manner of action adventure like Uncharted or something.

FrodoBaggins: I really hope it's a proper adventure game like Fate Of Atlantis, and not an action game like The Infernal Machine.
I would love that, but it's so vanishingly unlikely that I'm not considering it a possibility.

LucasArts was completely shut down by Disney, this is effectively a completely different company so there's no particular reason to revive the LucasArts name.

Any confirmation on a new Indiana Jones movie?

Fans will be apreensive if Disney turn things a little like Star Wars...
