DavidNielsen: Take my money oh please. I have been hoping for a good post apocalyptic RPG for years. This is going to be epic.

lowyhong: While you're waiting for Wasteland 2, I recommend New Vegas; it's really quite good if you haven't played that. It's more post-post-apoc, closer to FO2 than FO1, but still, it's a lovely game.
I know sadly it does not have an OS X port so I would be stuck hoping it could play via Crossover. New Vegas incorporated a lot of the elements from Van Buren (which was supposed to be the Fallout 3 release by Interplay before it got cancelled in its late stages), so it does sound like it would provide a good experience.

tfishell: Oh, and GOG should take this opportunity to tell Brian how re-releasing Wasteland here will generate interest in Wasteland 2 and probably lead to more funding.

Expack: This for the Epic Win of Doom!
Several of us already tried that. He said, that he has rights to make W2, but there must be aproval from EA to sell W1.

tburger: Does this amount include 100k $ of Brian's Fargo private cash he mentioned?
No. This is purely money from backers. They can't back the project themselves through Kickstarter. I haven't read the rules, but I'm 99% that would be against them, seeing as they only receive the money from backers if they meet their funding target.
$728,008 already.

Bugger me! At this rate it could easily overtake Double Fine's Adventure.

It's possible, but the Double Fine adventure made twice as much as the Wasteland 2 Kickstarter during the first 24 hours. It should be interesting to compare how the two campaigns perform after the initial spike in contributions.

Well, then, perhaps GOG can negotiate with EA to get them approve a GOG.com release of the original Wasteland. That's a remote possibility, isn't it?

Well, we have D&D games, right. But we still don't have System Shocks. So, fifty fifty?
Would it be worth checking out a copy of the original of questionable legal status? ... I'm just curious to see what the hoopla is all about, even though I've already pledged money for the project. There's literally no way to buy this thing, unless EA decides to maybe release it here (unlikely). Okay, so I saw a single C64 copy on eBay, but that ain't helping much.

Oh, okay. Thanks for the info.

Trilarion: Okay, if one million is indeed enough and just for fun I will jump the wagon. :)

With more than a million (hopefully) they will be able to create a better game.

Now since I didn't play the original, maybe somebody could also tell me, what made the original outstanding from all other RPGs. Was it the story of a post-apocalyptic world? Or was there more to the gameplay? A special humor maybe?

What do you think will Wasteland 2 make different from Mass Effect or Dragon Age or Skyrim ... apart from smaller budget and crowd financing?
Neither are old school rpg games

Sitting at $768000+ atm

Anyone who has not played Wasteland should play it, and Fountain of Dreams too.

They're old games, and GOG isn't selling them so fuck it. Just go *cough*acquire*cough* a copy.

That is, until EA decides they would actually LIKE our money for this gem.

....
But why want people another old school rpg game? I just wonder, what exactly was so great about them? And do people really want to do without all the new school rpg features?

Running around for ages searching for someone to be able to buy things in your weight and slot limited inventory who then has not enough gold to pay for everything, emptying dungeons after dungeons, quests running from one point to another killing characters or monsters or zombies in between. It's more or less included in every rpg.

In the end the difference between a good rpg and a bad one is somehow not so much in the system but in the details of the actual realization. You probably have to talk about all these little things if you want to make a point.
Difference between old school and all that new crap = dice rolls.
