I guess im a fan of the old star wars movies. Have read the odd related novel, seen the teasers. Read some info.
But what is the new movie going to be about ?.
kylo ren (read somewhere it isnt even going to be the real name is this char? ) is supposed to be the baddie along with the First Order
Alliance? - black dude in storm trooper outfit. Chick supposedly a pirate & a pilot. BB8 ?
Cant find the related thread so apologies. Does Luke get an heir?. Not a family related one?.
I don't think anyone knows much about it yet except the film makers and what characters are in it.

I think I read somewhere Kylo Ren is not a Sith yet.

The little R2D2 bot on a sphere wheel isn't a random bot, he's supposedly a character.

The artist who did the original Star Wars and Indiana Jones poster artwork was very impressed with it I heard. The cover art by the same artist was released.

Very little is known so far about the new Star Wars movie, the characters (other than their names) and their relationships. I think that's really great, actually. I hope they will keep it that way till December so we can all enjoy the movie as spoiler-free as possible.
I think the cover artist even went so far as saying it's the best Star Wars film yet.

"The Force Awakens" just sounds so.... dumb

Have to agree, that is one stupid name. Out of all the great names you could pick for naming a Star Wars film, that's pretty close to the worst.

The force was obviously asleep before. It was taking a nap when Luke was dueling with Darth Vader.

How about: Star Wars: Milking it like its the last cow.
Whilst some of the clips look ok (MFalcon for instance), after the afront to my eyes and ears that was JarJar, I do feel that galaxy far far away has a lot to answer for.
It's gonna suck. Star Wars has joined the pantheon of dead entities such as rock and roll, intellectual revivals, and the quality of food at fast food establishments... all being kept in perpetual motion by a combination of electricity and Re-animator juice.

It will be what I like to call "pseudo-movies", that is they have real actors (except for the aliens), but everything else is green-screen and CG. I don't think you can even call them live-action movies, "computer-generated movies" is probably more accurate.

So it brings back a question I've been dying to ask George Lucas since he hopped on the CGI train a long time ago.

If CGI is so much cheaper and allows things to be seen on screen that couldn't before using practical FX... then why have human actors in the films at all? To illicit emotion? Bwahahahahahaha! That would be a good response from George 'just stand on that fucking mark and spit out this pointless word salad with the soulless eyes of a shark' Lucas.

Pixels and polygons deserve to be in one place - video games. Anything else is bullshit and eye-sex material. Under the hood it's just a lifeless corpse. Yoda would not approve of this crude matter.

Actually, not that I'm expecting too much out of this movie, but they are using a lot of practical effects and real sets. It's actually been something they put a lot of emphasis on.

As to my own expectations of the movie, I think it's going to be a lot better than the prequels (which is hardly an accomplishment, but still), but not nearly as good as the origianl trilogy. Now, between those two tentpoles is the question- is it going to be good enough to redeem the Star Wars name, which has became a joke ever since the prequels? And with that also comes another problem. I can actually belive that this movie might do that. But I'm also pretty sure that with five more movies planned already, it's all going to fall apart again. Even if Abrams makes a miracle of a movie, the sequels and spin-offs will kill it.

I came across a crazy spoiler a while back. The film opens with what looks like a space ship traveling through space but then the camera pulls back to reveal that it's a lightaber with a severed mechanical hand still attached. IT'S LUKE'S! The lightsaber has a secret message contained within. Basically the film is about the search for Luke Skywalker.

As far as the title goes, I've heard that the Force has essentially rebooted itself. Beings throughout the galaxy have suddenly started developing powers. They weren't born with those powers, they were given them for some purpose that is yet unknown. Finn the Stormtrooper (John Boyega), just so happens to be one of them.

I'm hopeful this film will be one of the best in the franchise. Everything I've heard about it has been promising.

Hadn't this been debunked since ?

Also, i don't mind the title. Star Wars titles are awful. This one isn't worse than attack/revenge/return of the sith/clone/jedi. It awakens instead of striking back ? Big deal.

Episode 8: Rise of the Lightsaber.

Episode 9: Battle of the Droids.

Episode 10: Generator of the Titles.

Whatever.

Heck I would not mind if a Star Wars was all CGI but with a realistic style like Beowulf:

Heck its already done like the SWTOR trailers:

Star Wars 8: Attack of the Return of the Lightsabers Rises.

Only this one is set before the sequels and after the prequels, a long time ago. In the future.
