Hi everyone. I'm looking for the name of an old game I played many years ago on PC. I thought it was one of the first games Heroes of Might and Magic, but it is not.
These are some details I remember.
It was a turn-based strategy. You command the fantasy army and gain power by capturing cities. Cities provide you with gold and ability to produce more armies. When you conquer a city you can occupy or demolish it. Cities look like boxes (squares) in which there are 4 slots for 4 different types of army. Cities can be upgraded (several levels) and this gives you a bonus when defending. There are mercenary armies and heroes who can join your army if you have enough gold to pay.
In the upper right corner of the screen there is a map on which the cities are marked with the flags of the army that owns the city.
I think I would recognize the game if I saw a picture or a video of the gameplay, but I can't remember the name.
Thanks in advance to everyone who will try to help.

Maybe it was the precursor to the Heroes of Might & Magic series, the original King's Bounty.

There's another classic you might enjoy after you're done with Warlords 3. Lords of Magic LE is a nice game too.

I wonder if OP can mark more posts as solution now. Maybe it's like super power.

We do have some smart people though, finding out that was great! I was thinking almost towards warlords but that person nailed it.
