Why, GOG? This hasn't worked for years. You took away normal forum notifications, and now it's almost impossible to view recent posts and find the messages that your alert system wants me to see. No one will care, it will never be fixed, and you still suck at fora, GOG

I suspend they've a database query that runs slower and slower depending on how many posts you have.. and then at some critical threshold it starts timing out, so the server just gives you the bear.

That's also why it still works for many users (like me). Not enough posts yet to make it topple over. FWIW, it is quite slow for me, and I don't recall it always being so slow.
