Guillermo Mordillo is dead.

Now, the younger GOGgers probably don't even know who he was, or how his work looked like, but for an old fart like me, the news bears some sadness, because I have read and enjoyed his cartoons as a child already.

May you rest in peace, Mr Mordillo - and thank you for all the laughter and the giggles.

The final ink got spilled

I guess Mordillo was only known in Spain. It`s the original name of one of those Clever & Smart guys, right?

Ahhh shit, this guy is a huge influence for german cartoonists even if people don't know his name. His "thick nose" characters are iconic. I even heard the rumor like 20 years ago that the Werner movies were inspired by his artstryle but I could never confirm this. It does look similar however.

I say "is" because his legacy will live on even for centuries, no way his style of designing characters ever gets old. I don't think this is true, I know of the artist because of other people.

His comic strips could be found in German magazines, and his books were published here, too.

And the original title of "Clever & Smart" is "Mortadelo y Filemon", and has nothing to do with G. Mordillo.

In France, Mordillo is/was well known too. It's very sad he passed away, but I'm infinitely grateful for all his work!

I'm jealous, because the place he is now will have all the exclusivity of his next work!!

His comics were even shown on big screens in the Underground in Germany.

Hm, by looking at the cartoons, they look very familliar. Oh, wait, isn`t he the one who painted the cartoons that one can see on big screens in the munich subway stations?

He was well known here in Italy, in the past, anyway. I don't know how popular He was lately, but I'm an old fart too, and remember his comics from years ago.

My father bought me - long time ago - a poster from Mordillo.
At least I won't forget him....

I read today, that in the 1970s, he was one of the most widely published comic artists worldwide.
I mean, I knew he was famous...but that came as a little surprise to me.
