Hi! Any ideas what the migration to Windows 10 will be like for us GOG Galaxy users? I'm assuming (since my games are on a seperate hard drive to my OS) that I'll be able to just reinstall Galaxy but I'm wondering - will it be able to find games I already have downloaded? I'd rather not have to download The Witcher 3 again :p

Most likely you just have to keep those files on a separate disk. To be safe you'll want to reinstall just to make sure things are properly done.

But, make sure you backup the relevant save game directories. Once you play a game you can always copy the saves back to the correct location.
If you just upgrade your existing Win 7-8.1 installation, you won't have to touch anything.
Click on your Get Windows 10 task icon > followed by top left 3 lined sandwich > Check your PC.

See if you have any apps or data incompatible.. if your clear your good to go for the migration.

Get a beer and some hotdogs and your good to go. :P

Question: No matter what I've done, I can't get the damn thing to go despite having cleared the precheck. I've got that dammed mysterious error where it fails to open because 'hresult: the system cannot find the file specified' error.

How screwed am I?
Did you check the microsoft tech forums for this error? Maybe others are sharing your glitch?

Did, no direct results.

And I already tried the various scripts checked out by Microsot, uninstalling and reinstalling both updates, etc. Its why, when I get the upgrade I plan to Clean. And to get 64-bit.

There is a guy on reddit forgot his name but its under windows 10 or pc master race subreddits.. You'll have to find it I can't. The dude links ISO's from microsoft so you can use that to install into your system. You need to update it first and then use Produkey-x64 to get the windows 10 keys. Write it down and then do the clean install. When you use your ISO dvd or usb stick it will ask for it.

But for that reddit link sorry I've been trying to find it.. I have a few friends who also have errors and can't install windows.

I know they have a tool you can use but it doesn't always work.

Use the link provided by Wolfehunter and download the tool, run it and choose upgrade this PC. That I how I have done my parents PC's which didn't reserve before hand. It downloads the files and performs the upgrade, takes a couple of hours and you're set.

As things stand, Microsoft almost always releases an OS that is buggy and needs fixes, it might be better to wait a year or two for major issues to be resolved, like their updated privacy policy and forced mandatory automatic updates. The real question is do you need DX12? If not then wait (1-2 years) or don't migrate.

If you can't wait, i'd say swap hard drives and use a new clean hard drive for Windows 10, and if it fails or has huge issues for you just swap the drive back and your system restores to normal (Backups isn't necessarily easy or quick to do or restore so swapping drives seems safer) or better yet, use a separate computer (spare laptop or a computer that needs a new install anyways, etc)
Update: I used the media creation tool. Upgraded with 0 hitches.
My Galaxy GOG doesn't work?
Misssing some file, tales me to reinstall the program. I've have done it sevral Times, and still it doesn't work!

Maybe some driver/DLL wasn't signed?

Why do people still bother with this. Just upgrade and then reset if you want a clean install. Much faster, and much less work.

If you are upgrading from Windows 7 or Windows 8, then don't even give it a second thought, just upgrade to Windows 10. Nothing will happen to GOG Galaxy or any of your games. Upgrading to Windows 10 isn't really more involved than installing other updates from Software Update.
