CymTyr: Amazon buying Acti-Blizz is no different than MS buying Acti-Blizz. You're trading one billion dollar company for another.

MS, for whatever it's worth, has a better track record with its in house video games, and I want you to think about that for a minute.

Amazon's game releases outside of Lost Ark have all been horrendous or end up canceled. And Lost Ark is developed by an Asian company not owned by Amazon.
I would rather Nintendo buy them to be honest but Nintendo doesn't need them.

I actually agree with this 1000%. Have a great night :)
This is interesting:

Too bad he only mentions it in relation to Game Pass.... That's going to be a pass from me :/

I may miss something, but how would it (potentially) be better?

Seeing Nintendo as company which never releases anything outside of their consoles (not counting those android/ios semi-games), plus their hostile attitude towards emulation, fan-made games... I don't see anything good from that company, in any aspect related to games.
Not a fan of big companies eating so many smaller ones up & owning everything. Meh.

We know what they got for IP's - see my post earlier in this thread:
-> https://www.gog.com/forum/general/microsoft_to_acquire_activisionblizzard/post58

Though, since it is happening no matter what now and official - what does Microsoft buying say Activision solve for certain titles for rights and IP's?

Can we get a re-release of the old MechWarriors 1-4? Or does someone else hold some of its other rights?
Same questions as MechWarrior 1-4 - but what about say Heavy Gear series?

What about NOLF series & Contract JACK? Besides Activision, does anyone else hold any rights for that? IIRC, they were scattered. Doesn't FOX also hold some rights to these?

Also, what about Prototype 3? True Crime 3?
How about some re-releases or remasters of True Crime LA and NY?
Can we finally get those?

As far as I remember, True Crime 3 (Hong Kong) has been cancelled by Activision and resurrected by Square Enix as Sleeping Dogs. About True Crime: these games have a lot of third-party music so I highly doubt Microsoft will throw another ton of money for re-licensing it again.

And what about Hexen II: Portal of Praevus? Hexen is explicitly mentioned in the article linked above.

Well, yeah - TC: Hong Kong (originally True Crime 3) become Sleeping Dogs and something else entirely, so I really wouldn't call it True Crime 3 now. Sleeping Dogs became its own thing entirely - and what a game it was!

Well, of course, unless....say Microsoft buys Square and then re-brands Sleeping Dogs as True Crime 3: Hong Kong - Sleeping Dogs. Ugh, very scary nightmarish thoughts there.

Kind of reminds me how OG Fallout 3 from Black Isle that never was finished (as the old-school CRPG) happened...and we got Bethesda calling their Fallout shooter-RPG say Fallout 3. So, I often just refer to Black Isle's OG Fallout 3 as Fallout: Van Buren, these days. Of course, a lot of Van Buren for content became Fallout: NV, content-wise and story-wise anyways.

EDIT:
As for music licenses on games like True Crime: LA and NY - they could always do what Mafia 1 did and just say remove the licensed music. IIRC, I think most of those anyways were in the music stations anyways. Yeah, it's a truck-ton of music - but, I'm sure modders would find a way to get it back in, just like they did with the GTA's and with Mafia 1.

They also could just get say different songs to re-license, though - if they really wanted to, to re-release and/or remaster True Crime LA and NY.

Oh, I'd love to see a lot of those rights get figured out w/ Hexen 2 and Heretic 2. Activision still holds ALL of those, right? I don't think we have a NOLF situation there where all kinds of rights for these are scattered, right?

Oh, can we get Singularity 2 also?

Well we wouldn't have a mess like "Redfall" was for one thing. Nintendo doesn't rush their games like 95% of the time.

I don't like their behavior on what you said but they don't release their games borked like others.

pds41: It's a tough one - I've been trying to say that MS in the last ten years has been good, but also dealing with those who were gut reacting "Microsoft = bad". Bringing up Freelancer was a reaction to the guy who said that their only good game was Halo.
avatar
Tokyo_Bunny_8990: Still a bad example. It would be like me saying Taito is a great developer. They made space invaders.
There are tonnes of good games that Microsoft publish. Freelancer and AoE as older examples. Forza Horizon 5 and Flight Simulator as recent examples. As I said in my posts.

avatar
Tokyo_Bunny_8990: How is Nintendo a "casual publisher" when they basically have been carrying their own consoles through their own multiple exclusives that have all been pretty great?
Because Nintendo largely publish casual games. I'm not saying that they're not good games - but Mario Kart isn't exactly Witcher III. And to head off the incorrect point that would otherwise be coming, Witcher III (Switch) isn't published by Nintendo.

Either way, as all the important competition commissions finally agreed, there aren't any competition issues here - in terms of publishers, there are still Sony, Microsoft, Electronic Arts, Ubisoft, T2/2K, Devolver, Eidos (Square-Enix) and various smaller ones including CDPR.

Very old as in I was playing Freelancer on lan with friends and its now abandonware you can download for free. And kind of funny you defend Flight Simulator when Microsoft closed the studio in 2009. Luckily they brought it back in 2019.

Lol to think Zelda Breath of the Wild is casual but Witcher 3 is not is asinine. Sorry but how is Witcher 3 not a "casual" game apart from just personal bias? I cant see an argument where Nintendo is a "casual" developer but CDPR or Square are not.

That one is one big mess of an IP and no one seems to care about bringing it back. Fans would be better off just downloading the package that gets the games working on modern operating systems.
