MysterD: Also, what about Prototype 3? True Crime 3?
How about some re-releases or remasters of True Crime LA and NY?
Can we finally get those?
action_fan: As far as I remember, True Crime 3 (Hong Kong) has been cancelled by Activision and resurrected as Sleeping Dogs. About True Crime: these games have a lot of third-party music so I highly doubt Microsoft will throw another ton of money for re-licensing them again.
Well, yeah - TC: Hong Kong (originally True Crime 3) become Sleeping Dogs and something else entirely, so I really wouldn't call it True Crime 3 now. Sleeping Dogs became its own thing entirely - and what a game it was!
Well, of course, unless....say Microsoft buys Square and then re-brands Sleeping Dogs as True Crime 3: Hong Kong - Sleeping Dogs. Ugh, very scary nightmarish thoughts there.
Kind of reminds me how OG Fallout 3 from Black Isle that never was finished (as the old-school CRPG) happened...and we got Bethesda calling their Fallout shooter-RPG say Fallout 3. So, I often just refer to Black Isle's OG Fallout 3 as Fallout: Van Buren, these days. Of course, a lot of Van Buren for content became Fallout: NV, content-wise and story-wise anyways.
EDIT:
As for music licenses on games like True Crime: LA and NY - they could always do what Mafia 1 did and just say remove the licensed music. IIRC, I think most of those anyways were in the music stations anyways. Yeah, it's a truck-ton of music - but, I'm sure modders would find a way to get it back in, just like they did with the GTA's and with Mafia 1.
They also could just get say different songs to re-license, though - if they really wanted to, to re-release and/or remaster True Crime LA and NY.
MysterD: Though, since it is happening - what does Microsoft buying say Activision solve for certain titles for rights and IP's?
cose_vecchie: And what about
Hexen II: Portal of Praevus? Hexen is explicitly mentioned in the article linked above.
Oh, I'd love to see a lot of those rights get figured out w/ Hexen 2 and Heretic 2. Activision still holds ALL of those, right? I don't think we have a NOLF situation there where all kinds of rights for these are scattered, right?
Oh, can we get Singularity 2 also?
