To celebrate the anniversary of METRO: Last Light original launch, we’ve partnered up with 4A Games to bring the original versions of METRO 2033 and METRO: Last Light Complete Edition to GOG, as part of the GOG Preservation Program – ensuring these beloved classics remain accessible and fully playable for years to come.

From the haunting isolation of METRO 2033 (-70%) to the desperate conflict and survival of METRO: Last Light Complete Edition (-70%), these adventures helped shape one of gaming’s most immersive post-apocalyptic universes. Now, both experiences are once again available for longtime fans and newcomers alike.

To mark the release, all METRO franchise titles available on GOG are now discounted until May 27th, 7AM UTC!

What a great day for game preservation!

Zaephir-Moth: Helpful answers, thanks! And, hey, since you seem a bit knowledgable about Achievements, you wouldn't know if there's a way to transfer Steam's to Gog's, over a single identical game of course, would you ?
I finished Metro 2033 at 100% through Steam, years ago, and was wondering if that record could be imported...
Pretty sure there is an app on github that allows manually unlocking|locking achievements in GoG.
Not sure if it can be done automatically.
At this point, after having done a bit of research, I don't feel motivated to bother getting the original versions.

If they were free, I'd certainly be happy to have them, and would even maybe purchase them at half the current price.

But really I am not keen to have competing versions, as they don't seem to be enough different to me, and by most accounts the Redux versions, despite some issues, are considered superior overall.

And it's not like I haven't got enough other games on my backlog to play or others to replay. Only having one version, makes it a simple choice for playing. If I was 20 years younger, I'd probably feel different.

It's not a night and day difference and for most people the redux versions are the way to go, but the feel (especially in Metro 2033) is way better and unique, they play less like CoD

There is indeed and it was easy to find. High five, Mr Adamov! Thanks a lot...

Yeah, that's the one that I used. Though it didn't have proper GUI back then.

andlindt: Redux should include the og version. It's their doing for not providing it automatically, when they launched redux. The least they can do now is give it for free or at a discount, if you own the redux.
Sounds kinda ungrateful, but it is accurate, I bought those janky Redux versions and they've not been used. Would gladly dump them from my account for the originals. Same with Skyrim, and others they wait until an inferior re-release to dump on GOG.
On sale they're $3, which is not a lot of money in most of the United States at least. I think it's fair for GOG to ask money for these. My main concern is the crashing issues people are having.

Edit: I wouldn't mind Preservation Program people getting these for free (I am not one of them), but I think vocal forum users would be unhappy about that.

Just wanted to share in case it helps someone:

https://www.gog.com/forum/metro_series/gogs_metro_2033_running_stable_now_here

"After turning off the Enhanced Radeon Sync (which interferes with the game's own Vsync and max FPS setting) and limiting the FPS to 61 in radeon chill (probably irrelevant for stability), the game stopped freezing on me. And I already have the nVidia Legacy PhysX drivers 9.13.0604 drivers installed, with which the game works fine in Steam. (game still comes with the 2010 PhysX package). I couldn't get to the end of the Metro station before, now it just runs as usual so I expect it to be perfectly fine now, with Advanced PhysX turned on.

Yay. Hopefully many of you with issues will see them disappear too by tweaking the driver Vsync setting and installing the 2013 legacy drivers for PhysX."

Yeah I couldn't get vsync turned off again. It would keep turning back on for me..

Maybe one of the blues can check it and actually do some kind of an official fix?
If not, then we have another questionable Preservation Program proposition, after DMC4's fix not materialising..
To be fair, Metro does not seem AS problematic, but still, there are a number of reviews mentioning these issues.

Yeah, I have toyed with just getting Metro 2033 as that reportedly has the bigger difference feel wise. So I am tempted, but pricing hasn't made it easier, when it probably should have been free.

And there is still that notion of which version do I play, when I already have so many other games waiting to be played, just once.

I already sent a case in so lets see what happens.

This seems to fix the issue for now. Testing it out more. already had the old PhysX driver installed, so forcing V-Sync off in the Nvidia control panel keeps it off this time because editing the configuration file didn't work after a restart. Which is funny because I had no issues increasing FOV or turning off fullscreen in the configuration file.

Okay, I'm weak and caved, and grabbed both, despite not being totally convinced I needed to.
Please feel free to laugh at me .... I probably deserve it. LOL

At least now, I can concentrate better on more important things. :P

MysterD: And of course, if and when offline and if Achievements were built into offline - I should have an option to Reset the offline Achievements popped or not...b/c sure, why not?
There is an interesting idea hidden in there: Achievement profiles where you can have another run though without losing your original unlocks.
