[This is a sticky post, it will be visible in every single page of this thread. It has been published in October 2020.]

Our moderation team decided not to take a side in the discussion since this giveaway thread was created by the community and, as long as there are no forum rules violated, is up to you, dear Gogers, to decide its fate. We will not set giveaway rules, edit the OP's post, nor lock the whole thread.

However, to make it easier for newcomers to understand the situation (about the OP being inactive and other), I will stick my own post right above the first one.

You are, of course, free to create new threads to start anew and make your own, clear rules. At the same time, please stay reasonable when crating them, as multiple new duplicates might make it even more confusing for many Gogers.

That being said, here you can find a post with dxenija's community poll to have better understanding of the situation: CLICK.

At the time of writing, open giveaway threads are:
- Massive Giveaways Blog (this one)
- Free (temporary) keys giveaway central topic.
- Updated Itch.io giveaways

Be nice to each other *flies away*

MaxFulvus: To celebrate Ubisoft Connect's fifth anniversary, Immortals Fenyx Rising will be free to keep on Ubisoft Connect PC, starting November 13.

Normally I would be happy about some free stuff but.... this is Ubisoft. What's to keep them from removing the game from my account just like they did with The Crew? Really all I would treat this giveaway as is like an extended rental from the store with no defined date before they take it from you.

I completely agree. In fact, in my case, I don't even consider this a ‘gift.’ Thanks, but no thanks.

The Crew was partly server-based and required online validation. Immortals Fenyx Rising, on the other hand, has no server connection and runs completely locally - there are no servers to shut down.

Also, it’s free. If you redeem it, play it, and it later gets removed, you’ve lost nothing, and may even have had a good time playing it. The issue with The Crew was that people had paid money for it.

That said, I actually think Immortals Fenyx Rising is a really good game. It got some negative reviews and the humor sometimes fall flat, but a lot of the criticism comes from it being a Ubisoft game rather than it being a bad game. I had a great time with it.

The same thing that kept GOG from removing the free Timberborn Demo from all of our libraries back in August 2021 (and countless goodies before and after). Nothing.

Gog does not regularly do that, my guess would be they only do that when some unexpected licensing issues arise. As for the demo you mentioned, the explanation is here:
https://www.gog.com/forum/timberborn/demo_delisted_and_removed/post2
On the other hand, Ubisoft does have a tendency to not just delist but also remove games you thought you own because you paid, and the first thing some of us thought was "okay, so when will it be removed, a month after the giveaway, a year at best"? That said, this one is actually Ubisoft IP, in-house developed, running on their engine - and does not require any servers to run, as stated by others - so the probability of it being removed soon is relatively low.
One warning: it uses Denuvo.

It's a gamble but at least the entry cost is free.
Better than a company threatening to push out a new policy a few years ago
To terminate accounts with libraries (made of paid and free games) for not logging on after a year or two.

I never even installed the ubisoft client
- Only ever used the titles I own there (& got through vairious giveaways) through GeForce Now.
Hopefully this title will be available through that service - post time it becomes free - to spare your PC from Denovo Malware.

The service affected by this controversy was Ubisoft Connect .
According to reports, accounts belonging to customers who had been inactive for more than six months began to be closed.
Later, Ubisoft issued a statement ‘clarifying’ the situation.

This was explained a decade ago and it's been there for a long time. It's nothing to do with Connect, since that wasn't a thing back then. Only several years ago people started noticing it, though the whole time folks usually aren't keen on reading them (and if you do, you can find weird stuff, or even get some money if you're one of those people). Anyway, it doesn't go without notice if this happens.

According to its Pcgamingwiki page, the game has 2 DRM (3 if you count the Ubi client) : Denuvo and VMProtect.
Well, it's not the big deal I expected...

Welp, since there is no standard way to "buy" a game from Ubisoft without actually downloading it, it seems you cannot get this without the dangerous Denuvo stuff. I tried to redeem it while cancelling the download in process so as to be able to install it on a less important piece of hw sometime in the future but am not sure it will remain in my library. Time will tell. If the "giveaway" does not show up for you (on the web it is roughly in the middle of the page, in my app, it was nowhere to be seen), search for the game in the store, click on any version, and the Standard version will show up at the bottom of the page discounted to zero. I really don't understand Ubisoft's marketing strategy.
