VOTE FOR THIS GAME TO GET RELEASED ON GOG:

So I managed to find an interesting thread on RPG Codex:
http://www.rpgcodex.net/forums/index.php?threads/drdungeons-ultizurk-and-madman-games-thread.71952/

It seems a rather eccentric but talented older man who goes by the name "Dr Dungeon" is making a new cRPG called MADMAN which seems to be highly inspired by Ultima VII, as you can see by the gameplay and tile-based graphics. The game features an open-world, 9 character classes, 11 skills and a bunch of very Ultima-like features such as the ability to bake bread, knit clothes, make potions, etc. Dr Dungeon as you can read apparently made a whole lot of shareware/freeware Ultima clones during the 90's, but this project is his "Big One", with upgraded graphics for widescreen resolutions!

Official site (with screenshots):

Gameplay video (narrated by the man himself):

It's likely that this game will be out soon, and maybe coming right here to GOG.

Ultizurk!!! Thank you for the link Crosmando.

I remember trying one of them briefly way back, it was pretty well put together. ^_^
(I think it was Ultizurk III: The Guildmaster's Quest...)

Glad to see the Dev is still active! ^_^

Is anyone else familiar with this series?

Edit: <Found some more info!> ^_^

Quote from: http://inspired.ultimacodex.com/the-ultizurk-series/

The Ultizurk games were/are a series of shareware games released in the 1990s. They have a very similar look and feel to some of the later Ultima games, and even the name of the series suggests more than just a casual connection thereto. They are DOS games, and as such may require DOSBox in order to work.

Each game comes in two parts; the first part of each can be obtained, played, and passed for free, while the second part must be purchased. Each part of each game, and each game in the series, builds off of the plot(s) of earlier instalments, meaning that the series should be bound together by something like a cohesive narrative.

It was thought that the Ultizurk games were lost to time until just recently, when Infinitron Dragon managed to unearth links to many of the series’ shareware releases, and Dr. Dungeon subsequently went on to re-release the first two entries in the series in their entirety, for free, along with Underland, the first spin-off.

In total, six Ultizurk games were released, and a seventh — Ultizurk 4: Lord of the Cyclops was never completed. The reason there are so many entries compared to how few numbered entries exist in the series has to do with the fact that it would appear that Dr. Dungeon put together a few spinoff-type games, such as The Great Ultizurkian Underland…which I would assume takes some inspiration from Ultima Underworld.

All of the downloads for the shareware portions of each game that Infinitron Dragon could find are hosted here, as well as the full-version downloads for Ultizurk 1 and Ultizurk 2 that Dr. Dungeon released; feel free to grab one and give it a try.
Edit... Again! :

I pose the following theoretical question to my fellow members of the GOG community:
If it was possible would you like to see Dr. Dungeon's latest game MadMan released on GOG? ^_^

Perhaps along side his previous series Ultizurk? -_^

Sure!
The Spiderweb games prove that you don't need perfect graphics to have an intriguing game, so let's have it here on GOG!
Thanks for mentioning this. Ultima 7 is my favourite game of all time, so I'm always curious when it is referenced. Looking forward to seeing Dr Dungeon's work :)

Edit: So that's a "yes!" from me :)

Did you also know that someone converted Ultima 1 into a tabletop game?

Wow that is impressive! I like how it has been released for free if anyone is able to print themselves out a copy. If you do, this thread is important http://boardgamegeek.com/thread/1124399/read-this-before-you-print-out-documents

Famous last word
"intriguing" game? check
"not perfect" graphics? check
I dare you to challenge http://www.revengeofthesunfish.com/rotsfone.html ? :)

But i must say its cool we have these madman-developers around. Wish i could code something myself.
Sadly the downloads for Ultizurk from ultimacodex seem to be just empty zip files. :-(
Here's a working link to UZ3

A tad too imperfect for me. The interface and graphics remind me more of Ultima VI (1990) than VII (1992-93), an important distinction for me.

Still, the legacy of Richard Garriot's original creation lives on in the spirit of fans and DIY programmers, if not the parent company and IP holders.

Hopefully you won't be forced into playing a goody little two shoes. :) Been there, done that 1000 times. Now it's just boring.

Have you checked out the latest Spiderweb games? The graphics have improved to something way better than what you see in Ultima VII.

Hey ho! 'Tis done! 'Tis ready! Tested! Doesn't crash! No bugs! What's the holdup? Its this registration/purchase stuff I'm new to. Me! Dr. Dungeon! Its the part where you download the demo then want to buy it. So you get some special code. Generating that is easy, but not sure how it gets to the player to enter a specific code for the game. Working on figuring this out as the game sits here, ready to release!

Also looking into Steam Greenlight. Seems the next logical step. Also, there's a preview review on the RPG codex by Deuce Traveler who played it through.

Yes yes! It looks a little like Ultima VI but plays like VII. Lots of detail. Loads of interaction. Bizarre story. Steering away from the kill the evil wizard stuff. Snappy interface. Must get it on gog somehow! Got to get working.

Playing too much Mass Effect lately. Like Mordrin..Mordin? Favorite character! :)

Anyone have any know-how about this code registration stuff?

You can even pop popcorn in Madman! And pick oranges. Works like a charm! Thanks for the interest guys, I'll be in touch.
-Dr. Dungeon
-In the Castle of The Mach Gryphon

P.S. He's right. I AM eccentric! Or maybe went mad. Took almost seven years to make this. Auuuggghhh!!!!!

I'll go and have a look for that review and link it here when I find it :) (being a new member you can't link just yet)

Now that sounds divine as Ultima 7 is still my favourite game of all time :) Hopefully you submit the game once it is working and release it here! You can use this link to submit a game to be released on GOG.

I don't like popcorn or oranges. Damn you just lost me as a customer :P Can you pick mushrooms instead?

It sounds like a labour of love, and creativity and madness are synonymous - thanks for registering and posting here, I've had this page favourited since I first saw this thread, hoping to hear of its release! :)
