I don't understand the gaming industry at all anymore. I have been gaming since the 70s, and used to be when you bought a game you got the whole game. Then the DLC thing started. It was cool to get additional content like extra missions or whatnot, but now it's day 1 DLC. It's DLC that in reality is already on the game disc you bought; you are just paying to unlock it. Microtransactions in MMOs in order to bypass the horrific grindfest they have all turned into. Now loot crates in single player games? This industry seems hell bent on bringing about another video game crash like we had in the 80s.

Sadly, most companies today make games not to last, just to cash grab as much as possible.
While I don't mind "loot crates" in any game that are aesthetic only, I do mind "pay to win" disguised as "you can get this too, as long as you grind x days".
Looks like CODWWII are at it too. Purchases available to boost your in game currency.
But then this is activision, so no major surprise there...

Breja: It's been quite a while since the gaming industry, maybe even gaming culture at large, passed me by, going in a direction I entirely fail to understand. Clients, social features, achievements, youtuber celebrities, streaming/let's plays/twitch, microtransactions, day-one DLC etc. This doesn't even surprise or anger me anymore. I have no idea why would anyone ever spend money on that sort of thing. I understand as little about it as I would of some ancient text in aramaic, but I know people will buy this crap. People get the kind of gaming they helped create, no reason why they would sober up now and realise just how stupid all of this is.
I just had to quote that so as to be repeated. Well said.

According to the Gamespot review. Legendary orcs are only available in paid loot boxes. Random lootboxes ingame will only give up to epic

Polygon reports that the games ‘4th act’ which unlocks the true ending, requires use of lootboxes or it will become a hopeless grind

Just to be clear, Legendaries can be obtained during gameplay, you just won't get them from ingame currency lootboxes.

I don't mind a grind personally, hoping they're being bait click with the hopeless part though

You're lucky, grindy games are a nightmare to me hehe.
I currently potter about in Elite Dangerous & ye gads, the grind in that game... It's so bad, that I quit inhabited space & went into the void in hopes that it gets "fixed" before I contemplate returning lol

--------------

Definitely doesn't sound good.

^This isn't accurate.

While I'm not a fan of this new iteration of random lootboxes+microtransactions, there are 2 other ways (involving some degree of grinding) of obtaining Leg. Orcs in Wardor detailed in the article:

http://www.gamesradar.com/middle-earth-shadow-of-war-epic-and-legendary-orcs-guide/

Get Epic and Legendary Orcs through domination, and Force Epic and Legendary Orcs to spawn by dying
I'll let you know how it goes, ended up picking up the game ^^ <-- part of the problem
Guess it's good most AAA rarely interest me. Getting nickle and dimed seems to be part of the experience now.

Lol, I'd like to say it's mindless atm but on Nemesis difficulty it's anything but atm, I'm dying a lot. But then again, that works well with the nemesis system so it's working out well

So dying is sort of like getting pregnant with orc babies? That's....different. lol

Are you getting nagged to purchase loot crates?
