Rixasha: If I'm really excited about a game I'll make extra effort to finish it without external help, but often if I've been stuck for a while and out of ideas despite doing all the normal things that you do - re-checking areas for missed items, trying unlikely items together, etc. - I'll just sigh and look it up.

My excuse is I've got too many games waiting in my backlog to waste time in fruitless frustration when I could be having fun playing them instead.

Leroux: , writing down the reason I wasn't able to solve it on my own.

Not an in-game hint book, but actual hints given in the character's speech lines.
This. In Runaway 2 (the situation I mentioned) I had trouble to empty the whine bottles. But If I had listened more carefully, he said "I better storage them" when you inspect the item in the inventory. Maybe than I would have looked earlier for a storage possibility what in the end had lead to solve the puzzle.

I really should have payed more attention and I try that in future. After Runaway 2 I will take a break from the series and start with Broken Sword for the first. I hope I will get this one through without looking something up :D
