I'm trying to find new military and crime TV series to watch with my parents, but is difficult to find what are the most interesting ones which aren't too violent or too dramatic, without at least a bit of humour. Actually we are watching series like Hawaii Five-0, NCIS, Murdoch Mysteries and Bones and thinking in watch S.W.A.T., Seal Team and Castle. Tried to see CSI in the past and didn't liked (found too boring), series like Law and Order and Criminal Minds look too violent/dramatic. Some older series like the original versions of Hawaii Five-O and S.W.A.T. are nice too (also CHIPS, M*A*S*H*, Hogan's Heroes and Black Sheep Squadron). Series in this style with firemen and/or medics are interesting too, like Emergency! and Code Red, also liked the more recent Combat Hospital.
If you're into British detective dramas I'd suggest:

Foyle's War

Inspector Morse and it's spin offs Lewis and Endeavour are pretty good too.

Castle would be a good choice. The early seasons are absolutely hilarious with excellent story lines. I will say that the last couple seasons were not as good.
Old woman turns small town in Maine into Murder Capital of the World

Or is that too far away from being a crime series?
Military: It's not a TV series, but a series of TV-movies. Check out Sharpe's Rifles. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sharpe_(TV_series)

Police Squad
does have to be in English?

there are quite lot very good Nordic noir crime shows with subtitles

If British, I would also recommend Inspector George Gently, Life on Mars, Line of Duty, Wallander (remake of the Swedish series, but actually very good) , Endeavor and New tricks (which is the more funny one)
Been watching this on Amazon Prime lately: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt7224628/

It's actually pretty good with a good sense of humor for a cop/detective show.
I wish I knew some tv series but I don't watch tv, I know 2 good movies they will love, Sicario and Se7en

Now that is some intense crime and military stuff right there.
F-Troop :D
Miami Vice and Crime Story. Hardly new, but it doesn't get any better than Miami Vice.

Not much familiar with british TV, except for series like Dr. Who, Sherlock and Primeval. How's the violence and humour of those suggestions? They're more action-focused or are in that style "much talk and few action"?

Detetive stories are too, if aren't boring (when the characters only talk instead of advancing the plot)

Saw the series once (and the movies)

Doesn't need to be english, if the series is interesting and I can find subtitles in my idiom, any suggestion is valid

I saw Tour of Duty as a kid and thought it was very good, in a disturbing sort of way. Anyone know if it is actually any good? Perhaps not ideal though since I definitely remember it as being quite dramatic.

Less dramatic but still very good from my kid eyes back then : Counterstrike and Bugs (though how difficult these are to get hold off I don't know)
