While I'd like to see those old RTS games here, I don't think I'd buy many of them. Maybe C&C or Red Alert.

I played the hell out of RTS games in the 90s, but now my free time and reflexes aren't what they once were. Base rushing and 'zerging' my opponents with low level swarms just isn't my thing any more. My aching back and receding hair line will have to settle for TBS over RTS.
I'm rather oriented on second half/late 90', but definitelly RTS games from this period are something I have nice memories

Definitelly Starcraft + Brood war and Warcraft II (Battle.Net edition). Both KKND games, but in terms of campaign I prefer a bit more first one (probably due to cut-scenes, which were a bit more dynamic and interesting).

I like a lot Dune 2000, as well as Red Alert 2 and Emperor: Battle for Dune (but these two are rather not counting to 90' period). I appreciate Red Alert 1 for interesting, more "mature" profile, as well as the fact that they've shown Stalin very accurately, as genocidal murderer, but in terms of gameplay... Well, it's a bit tough cookie, plus I need to play in it (as well as in Dune 2000) in rather low resolution (playing in high resolution in OpenRA or Gruntsmod is causing that I'm playing with army of ants - my eyes literally hurts me).

I've enjoyed a lot Seven Kingdoms when I've finally learned how to play in it (training in SK II was made in very weird way - you're automatically tranferred to training with playing as Fryhtan's, completely skipping training for playing as humans, options for human's training are somehow "hidden", good thing that first game is showing well how to play as humans, since there wasn't introduced possibility to play as Fryhtans.

Don't know if I can count it as RTS, but I liked also Myth 1 and 2, as well as Small Soldiers game.
I've been a fan of RTS-es ever since Dune 2. I've played most, if not all, of the classics (already mentioned a number of times in this thread). I'm quite fond of Dark Reign in particular.

Still, I'm surprised nobody has mentioned these two pre-2000 gems:
-> Outpost 2: Divided Destiny
-> NetStorm: Islands At War

I must have spent days on end paying NetStorm back in the day, still clearly remember the ritual that's part of the win sequence of most missions.

I love classic RTS games, although I do feel that the ones from the early-mid 90's haven't aged very well. I managed to get some older RTS games working a while back, and a lot of those old UI's and AI's are a lot worse than I remembered. It was actually kinda cool seeing how features like queues or waypoints slowly found their way into the games, but some of the early adopters had the weirdest of quirks.

Gydion: Wouldn't most regulars on GOG who like RTSes also like ones from the "old-school/90s-era"?

I like them.
Probably but I wanted to specify.

Anyway, I don't think folks need to keep posting in this thread (unless they want to, of course) as I think I have what I needed, thanks. :) Sorry I can't say more.
Looks like nobody mentioned these
War Inc
This Means War

I loved them :)
Well, I played them all. Anything I could get my hands on in the 90s where the strategy games were few and far between. Dune 2 through to C&C then Warcraft & starcraft, supreme commander, all that lot.

Not such a fan now though, replaying them indicates they don't age well. Many will disagree with that, but that's my opinion.

Hope that helps.
WarWind Obblinox represent.
Bump for visibility, but I'm a turn-based or RTWP sort of chap myself
RTS was never my genre of choice. I am just trying to get into it now. TinyE is your guy actually. He loves that shit.

I have a fond memory of a Starcraft LAN party held at a University Physics department surreptitiously by one of the PhD students. I had never played, so everybody left me alone in my corner of the board as long as possible. I was just learning the basic mechanics and controls. And then one of my friends yelled across to me, "Hey, Misteryo! I'm sorry about this, but I need your space." And then I was swarmed and overcome.

Fun times!
Mostly played and completed all RTS in the 90s and early 2000.

But I have to say they are now growing boring.

But then what RTS?
Myth and Dune II are quite different beats.

I used to play Warcraft 2 and Starcraft.
I don't know if this one is old school but, I loved C&C Generals/Zero Hour. I even made a mini campaign for me and a good friend. After Zero Hour, I don't think I can enjoy RTS without map editor.
EDIT: Wow, I forgot about War Inc. from previous poster. :) I played that one. War Inc. was made by an obscure name company.

Warzone 2100, Urban Assault, Age of Empires. I played a few classics.

ZFR: I'm here. Starting from Warcraft 1 onwards.
I never got into Warcraft 1, I got it as part of the battle chest and unfortunately, the graphics were so poor that you could see virtually none of what was going on at the time. WC 2 was a huge improvement just because you could see enough of the battlefield to make it engaging.

Kind of sad that Blizzard never really managed to surpass it. I thought I liked SC, but playing it more recently, the game is pretty dull.

WZ2100 has gotten pretty good with recent updates to the game by the fan base.

I actually played a few levels of Warcraft 2 before buying Battlechest and playing all. The graphics didn't bother me as much as the 4 unit selection and lack of right-click shortcuts. But it's surprising what one gets used to. After first few levels I got really proficient in it. With keyboard shortcuts and all.
