Hey guys and gals, I have just invested in black sails tv series and it has me in the mood for pirate games. I have thought about port royale but i have been told its more business then battles which sadly is not my area of expertise so i am wondering if there is a game on here or near by which provides the answers to my new obsession?

thanks in advance peeps :)
Best for many people, in this genre, is considered to be: Sid Meier's Pirates Remake 2004. Try to find it with the patch, it adds and corrects many things. Unfortunately, it is not sold here (yet), here you can find only the original. If you like old games, here you can also get the Gold (enhanced) edition of the original, it is considered by many pretty good.
I'll list the ones with a pirate setting that I know here on GOG (besides Port Royale 1/2):

* Pirates! Gold Plus (RTS)
* Corsairs Gold (RTS)
* Pixel Piracy (Roguelike)
* Risen 2 (RPG)
* Caribbean! (RPG-ish)

Two Worlds 2 has a separate campaign Pirates of the Flying Fortress, but I have not played it yet.

There is Sea Dogs, and a Pirates of the Carribean game that was pretty much a sequel to that if I remember correctly. I never finished it, but I remember liking it.

And there is Assassin's Creed Black Flag. And AC Rouge now also. As much as I dislike AC in general, I have to admit it's the best looking, most fun to play game in terms of swashbuckling fun and fast-paced sea battles, though not very challenging.

Pirates! Gold is still the best all things considered.

ANd, of course, there are the Monkey Island games if you just want to have some crazy pirate-y fun.

thanks very much Tannath, sadly due to my particular taste the games above arent exactly what I am looking for. I did have hopes on Carribean as the ship screen shots looked exactly what i was looking for, However the reviews do not give me much faith and for a £13 proce tag I doubt ill be paying for that!

Thanks for the links though I really appreciate it!

You are mostly welcome. Well, there are places you can find anything you wish, but it's open season on pirate arse, so my lips must remain tight... Apologies...
Uncharted Waters 2 by KOEI (1994), by far the best Age of Sail game I've ever played. It's like Pirates! except it's the whole world. Has a main plot, charting the world, discovering unique landmarks and wonders, making trading routes across the world, a whole array of ships to own and fleets command, gambling BlackJack and Dice Poker, 6 different characters with different stories, weapons and armour unique to different towns across the world, turn-based ship combat, personal duels etc. You'll also need to discover where the best ships and best cannons are in the world.
