Konrad: Hey guys and gals, sorry that you didn't hear about this from us first. Right now my colleague and I are in the process of nailing down the the final details of what's changed (and what's to come), and triple-checking with other teams that there's no miscommunication. Stay tuned for more info shortly, but just to clarify the most important thing:

These particular limitations are just a temporary measure, and they will be removed as soon as possible.
What kind of business doesn't work out the announcement of a public change before implementing said change? This business, apparently.

Still, nice to know you'll be getting around the bolting the barn door. This gift horse is already long gone, though.

Zurvan7: just when you think gog is doing one thing right, you'll see a b*tch move like this. The close community on gog is pretty much dead. A LOT of old members haven't been active on gog for months now. Wonder why...

Grargar: If you are still interested in maintaining the trading thread, you should add my list to your opening post. That way, users will be more cautious with someone who claims to have a giftcode for a restricted game.

Grargar: Is that also true for Witcher 3? It has remained in that state for close to 4 months.
I will edit the OP in the trading thread as soon as there is news again... I'll leave a reply in the thread for now to be sure but I don't get it since Konrad is stating that this is a temporary thing....

EDIT: posted a reply and edited the OP just to be sure. Even if it means one less scam :p

Wurzelkraft: Soon = never. I get it.
Well, at least we can all play "Crawl" while we wait...

You know how the saying goes - nothing more permanent than the temporary...

But cheers for dropping in, even if a bit too late.

Konrad: Hey guys and gals, sorry that you didn't hear about this from us first.
Would it have hurt you guys that much to wait for a few more hours and implement the change (at least) at the same time as the announcement comes out? Seriously guys, what happened over the last few hours is really bad PR, I hope it was worth it. I believe you work very hard and care for what goes on here, but you guys really need to improve on your communication skills.

Too bad GOG's track record indicates that in all likelyhood temporary=permanent.

Your company's credibility is pretty much in the red by now. Your assurances mean nothing to many of us. You never even acknowledge any problematic issues unless the community raises a regular shitstorm, and you never follow through on your promises to fix them.

At this point, you may as well not tell us anything unless you are ready to put actions behind your words immediately. Not in a month, not in a week, not tomorrow, but 5 minutes ago.

Thank you, but it isn't a region restriction, but a gifting one. Nobody can buy one of the affected games as a gift, regardless of his/her region.

Grargar: Something bad has happened again and as per GOG's typical MO, there was nary a voice. So, what's on today's menu? Worldwide gifting restrictions. Remember Witcher 3's temporarily unavailable gifting status? Well, it seems that 4 months later, several other games have joined their brother. What does this mean? Simple; you can't buy any of the affected games as a gift, but you should still be able to redeem any giftcodes bought before today (24/08/2015). Which games are affected? The following ones:

...
gog is just silently adjusting to the realities of the market again :)

I guess your top men are working on it?
Strange list, I could understand (while not agreeing with) restriction on the more newly desired and costly games like Witcher 3, Blackguards 2, The Book of Unwritten Tales 2 etc.

But why include bad games like 1954 Alcatraz which was on sale for a 1$? or even games which GOG gave for free not long ago like Witcher 2 or Xenonauts?

Great work, as usual, Grargar.

How did you compile the list, by attempting to buy the entire catalogue and noting which games got a message on checkout? Or by some other way?

I tried to find whether the information is visibly available somewhere (e.g. the catalogue), but no luck yet.

But what are the bottom men working on?

Thank you, mrkgnao. After some talks with Treasure, I came to the conclusion that the games afflicted by the gifting restrictions were the expensive ones (that have a base price of $20 and higher). Next, I used MaGOG (thanks again, by the way) to narrow down all the $20+ games and then started adding them to my cart to see which games would trigger the message. I was a bit surprised to see that The Escapists, a game that cost $18, also had gifting restrictions.

Nope, the top men are still busy fixing the chat.
