And there was much rejoicing...
That opponent sure take their sweet time...
My experiences on the GOG forums are relatively good. They seem to have a reasonable free speech policy (so far that i`ve seen).

A lot better than other forums that I`ve been on taht jump on you the moment that even your `tone` don`t sound right- I dunno how they work that out because `tones` are very subjective especially if you`re not a native English speaker.

You should never ban or delete anyone for how they `sound` in your mind for what is written, it is the content of what they write that matters.

But I see a lot of noob and immature mods on other fourms elsewhere doing it badly and very few who are good, mature mods that actually understand how to mod fairly and reasonably. Paradox is horrible in this regard and I suspect they are governed by mods with a very high biased agenda.

If some of those mods were Police Officers we`d be in a world of hell.
Obviously a great deal of things could be improved on the forum - though one thing that is good is the lack of signatures and spamming of in-line pictures, which typically makes reading on 'modern' forums a pain in the arse.

This is obviously far from the top priority, but what's up with the massive white space in the footer-ish area? Is there supposed to be spam (aka ads)? Doesn't look like it when I check the code in Code Inspector, and I could fix it, and it does look pretty damn weird.

This is why turn-based multiplayer games should always have some kind of time limit for turns.

(yeah, I know Blood Bowl does have it)
My experiance ever since I made an account with the release of Witcher 3 is a pretty negative one. As someone who enjoys discourse around games I found the forums to be a pretty negative place. Recently, the posts in the forums about pronouns in Battletech or the (joke?) thread about it being rascist may have just pushed me out for good considering how much anger came about over something that should have not mattered to most people. Its a shame because there seems to be some good people in here but much like trying to find a good game on Steam theyre buried under the bullshit.

The thing that's really sad is that, at least in the pronoun example, there are people for whom it matters a great deal in a positive direction. While I don't currently intend to get that game, he fact that the game lets you pick your pronouns is something I appreciate, and would enhance my enjoyment of the game.

It's a shame that some people seem to be against other people having fun.

(By the way, before the current rules came into play, there are a few times where I encountered severe transphobia, including people using the t-slur.)

Not interested in that game, but I did read a little in the thread you reference, and it was hard to take it seriously. Baffling that people can get so upset over so little. Sincerely hope the racism thing was a joke, but am far from sure...

One thing I think we can all agree on however, is that GOG should upgrade the forum software. Though given their recent decisions, we may come to regret that when they do :|
My experiences with the subforums:

Subforums seem to fit into a few general categories:
* Dead subforums (Elder Scrolls series, for example): There aren't enough people posting to the forum, which is not so good if you want to actually have a conversation.
* Toxic subforums: You try to have a discussion about the game, but one or two regulars of the sub-forum comes in and describes your post as "idiotic" (or something along those lines) or otherwise argues that the topic shouldn't be discussed. It's also worth noting that the only time I saw transphobia in a subforum, it was one of the ones I consider toxic.
* Good subforums (Quest for Glory): These are scarcer than they should be. When you find one, you can actually have an interesting and meaningful discussion about the game in question.

Ideally, every forum should be a good subforum; with that said, I would rather have a subforum be dead than toxic at this point.

Getting upset over this nonsense seems to be the primary use of the Internet these days. I guess we need a new rendition of the "The Internet is For Porn" song, though it might be hard to write something catchy with "The Internet is For Pointless Vitriolic Arguments About Wildly Overblown Non-issues" as a title.

Game specific forums are kind of dead. At least the ones I check out.
Because of that, it's sometimes hard to find sollutions to problems and I end up finding them on my own.

General forum is plain. Not in a bad way, it's just people chatting for the most part.
Since it's a Gaming Store I was expecting more talks around The Subject. To my surprise The Forum seems to be fulfilled with Customers sharing their political sympathies, sexual preferences, dissociative identity disorders yet complaining about their privacy issues(!) Many times I feel like in an open Lunatic Asylum.
Now, since I'm a Horse with a Hero torso I demand to be treated that way and called Mike The Great, Mike The Magnificent or Mike The Galactic Hero, otherwise I'm off.

Is Mike the Mule, close enough? eeooore.
Cool to see that "hate speech" is fine again on the gog forums. We can get rid of the hilariously hypocritical Code of Conduct page now.
