For those folks who enjoy old-school RPGs in the vein of Ultima 6, you'll probably like Knights of the Chalice:
https://store.steampowered.com/app/1083760/Knights_of_the_Chalice/

I suppose the visuals may be off-putting to some, and others may even think it looks live "RPG shovelware". But still there may be plenty of people whose main focus is the gameplay rather than mere visuals.
Apparently the dev tried to submit the game to GOG late last year, but never received a reply from the staff. Maybe the mail was lost among the COVID crisis or maybe they're still considering it. At least they haven't rejected it.

If anyone is interested in getting the game on GOG, vote on the Wishlist or try to contact GOG in some way (maybe they lost the guy's email - it's GOG, after all) :P

Thanks for your attention
Knights of the Chalice is worth checking out for people who don't own it.

Wasn't there a Knights of the Chalice 2 sort-of in the works?
Great game, his big inspirations were Dark Sun Shattered Lands and ToEE if I remember right.

Good thread, in this case I'd encourage people to contact GOG directly. Twitter, Reddit, Support, etc.

Not necessarily. Knights of the Chalice puts a much bigger emphasis on combat than Ultima 6, at the expense of ignoring other aspects commonly associated with the genre.

In particular:
* Someone who's looking for tactical D&D-style combat will enjoy Knights of the Chalice, but might not enjoy Ultima 6.
* Someone who's looking to get immersed in a world with people who have lives will not find that in Knights of the Chalice, and would be better served by playing Ultima 6.

(With that said, Ultima 6 *does* have the best combat in the Ultima series, but that really isn't saying much, as that series is not known for combat.)

TL;DR: Knights of the Chalice really isn't like Ultima 6.

You're right. I meant visually since the mechanics are quite different.

One of the forum members has contacted the GOG staff. Let's hope they reply to the original mail.

If I remember correctly (I could be mistaken), I think the dev had previously submitted the game to GOG, but it was rejected. He probably tried to submit the game again when it was known that GOG had accepted previous rejected games in December's "dungeon-crawlers sale".

His mail likely got lost among the logistics of the "December Sale", the Xmas Holidays and the later pandemic craze.

He originally submitted the game to GOG. At the time he was trying to get them to release another title of his, Battle of the Sands and not Knights of the Chalice, and GOG wanted it the other way:

Maybe the dev was contacting someone who doesn't work there anymore, maybe the email just got lost in the shuffle, but I don't think GOG would turn it down even now.

Thanks for the clarification. I admit I had no idea about the "Battle of the Sands" thing and always imagined it was just "KotC"-related.

Hope it isn't turned down. 600+ votes. (granted a chunk of those might be people who bought it on Steam by now, but I still hope it shows up)
LOL, I just stumbled on that game for the first time earlier this month. I put it on my steam wishlist because I thought the pixel art was unusually good! XD

This game would be great to have on GOG. Voted.
Already own Knights of the Chalice from it's original release back in 2009.

Knights of the Chalice 1 had Ultima 6 style combat wrapped around a forgettable plot/storyline.
Ultima 6 style combat was vastly better than Ultima 8's + whatever gibberish Ultima 7's was.

From what I can tell and from the demo, describing it as Ultima 6 combat is not really accurate; Ultima 6's combat is a fairly basis "one move or attack per turn", which KotC combat has characters move further and still attack, as well as much of the complexity of D&D combat (complete with mechanics like attacks of opportunity and grappling (which enemies can and will do to your mage)).

A better game to compare it to, combat wise, would be Temple of Elemental Evil, since it's based off the same tabletop RPG system.

(Speaking of which, if KotC gets here, it would be nice to see the demo, which features a scenario not included in the full game, come here as well.)
