Nice game but I had some issues with it. I generally don't like sandbox mode games because I prefer to have goals or something I want to beat. And the campaign mode was just far too grindy. I played it for quite a while and got to the Mun but I was getting a lot of repeat tasks after a while I just wanted to move on to some other games.

It is a great game though. Just not really for me. I had the same issue with Cities Skylines, make a nice city and then just got bored.

tinyE: My new computer is supposed to get here today and the main reason I got the damn thing was to play this game! :P

Even the people in here who hate me recommend I play it and when it was released a shit load of you fine folks tried to give it to me (kudos to my comrade who actually did). Needless to say I'm sitting here pissing myself waiting for the FedEx truck which usually doesn't show up until late afternoon. :-(
Congrats on the imminent arrival of the new piece of time-sucking equipment! I know how you feel, waiting for the box to Just Get Here Already is always painful.

tinyE: I just checked the tracking, it's 150 miles out, in Eagle River Wisconsin.
Sorry, I cannot decide for which kerbal pun to answer with ("hit recovery", "hit time acceleration", "deploy the parachutes", "send a rescue mission", etc). I have the same problem with the OPs' "KSP is fast becoming one of my fave games" ("burn retrograde, quick") and his "occasional crash to the desktop".

Kerbal threads are not that easy to manage. :-(

I suggest burning prograde till you hit the truck.
I know what you mean. I played it back when it was still in early access, nevertheless, it quickly became one of my all time favorite games. Top5 easy. I think what made that especially clear to me was the sheer excitement I felt when I managed to get in orbit around Mun for the first time, which somehow managed to pale in comparison to my first successful landing on Mun. I can't remember the last a game had me on the edge of my seat like that, nor when a game left me with such a immense sense of accomplishment. I had to stop playing though, because the big rockets that I was trying to launch were killing my laptop. I've decided that I won't play again until I have a proper gaming rig with a big 27'' monitor, so that I can experience the game in all its glory. Sadly, I have no idea when that will be :P

tinyE: Am I to assume there is an adequate save system here, meaning it keeps your designs? I'd hate to think every time I launch I have to go back to step one trying to remember where I put boosters and separators and crap.

Telika: Within one career (one "game" with set rules, and under a given name, or, if you want, one account) you can save anything you want at any point. You can even play for ages, save your modern rockets (and staging orders), and then reload a much older gamesave dating from before half of your tech unlock : your saved rockets will still be on your factory list, ready to be reloaded once you catch up again with the required tech discoveries. Not to mention you can most of time "revert" your mission back to the instant of launch, or back to the moment of rocket design. Okay, it may sound all confusing, but, let's put it that way :

1) The game is very save-friendly.

2) The game is very friendly.

Generally speaking, the game is very.

Now get out and go meet that fedex truck half way.
Don't forget, you can also use F5 and F9 as a quick-save and quick-load. I quicksave before every major milestone of a mission just in case I screw up a landing or my time-compression doesn't decompress on time. (Oh -- also, there's lots of mods. You can fly around the real solar system or even avoid missing time-decompressions. But I have yet to actually use any mods)
I really need to revisit this one. I logged ~100 hours awhile back, long before the 1.0 release. It was a funtastic game even back then.

Yeah, I do that a lot. Thankfully. Because screwing up a trajectory happens easily. Especially with map commands that require "shift" (like, "select previous focus"). Took me ages to realise why my rocket was being all ignited when I was looking back at it...

I'm also slowly approaching the fence, when it comes to mods. Inteplanetary travels are lenghthy endeavours, and the trial-and-error approach may get tedious. I come to wonder if I should calculate delta-V's in advance (that is, use a mod for that, because I won't pop out my papers and calculators for this). But I'll still try to set up fuel stations here and there, first. Maybe it'll be a sufficient safeguard against too remotely stranded missions.
I haven't played it yet, but I was just visiting my brother and he hadn't closed the program on his computer in weeks. We didn't visit a whole lot - I just watched him playing KSP. :)

Fairfox: Heh, that's where I'm at. Judging from the sales both here on GOG and on Steam the devs don't seem to be in much of a hurry to lower the price, mind.
They have done what many people have tried and failed, making a game which gamers are forced to buy because it looks so darn good. It's not even overpriced, I just can't convince myself I'm not broke enough to buy it just yet.

Seems like it's extremely popular, but not over hyped. Just sitting at the top of my wishlist happily, unobtrusively. Chillin.

It does look quite incredible, when I saw its release and looked at it I got really really excited about it, hopefully one day!!! Thanks for the insight! Very cool!!!
For the too expensive crowd, I recommend this: Get the demo. You can play all the way to the moon. That will keep you busy for weeks or months. If you LOVE it, you will throw any amount of money down. If you like it, wait for a sale. Otherwise, you'll either hate it or have played enough with the demo that you'll have saved some money.
If you like space flight then there's also Orbiter which is free.

http://orbit.medphys.ucl.ac.uk/

Orbiter is a free and realistic space flight simulation program for the Windows PC.
ISS and Atlantis

Fed up with space games that insult your intelligence and violate every law of physics? Orbiter is a simulator that gives you an idea what space flight really feels like - today and in the not so distant future. And best of all: you can download it for free!

Launch the Space Shuttle from Kennedy Space Center and rendezvous with the International Space Station.
Recreate historic flights with addon spacecraft packages: Mercury, Gemini, Apollo, Vostok and more.
Plan interplanetary slingshots and tour the solar system with futuristic space craft.
Design your own rockets, or download addons created by other users.
Learn about the concepts of space flight and orbital mechanics by playing and experimenting.
