It’s time to brew coffee and stretch your fingers – after a few years of absence, the Insomnia Promo event is back on GOG! With it arrive the best deals and the exciting anticipation that will drive away your sleep, while also giving loads of fun!

This Summer Sale on GOG is already full of deep discounts, yet we saved the most delicious treats, especially for the Insomnia Promo. How does it work? Starting now, once every 6 hours a new great game will appear here, bearing an insanely deep discount. Right now, you can already see the first title – the best-selling strategy game Frostpunk 85% off!

What’s the catch? Every game appearing during the event will only have 6 hours to catch your attention. After the time runs out, a new game will appear, while the former one will get back on our Summer Sale with the initial, lower discount. The other factor you have to be aware of is the limited stock of Insomnia deals!

So, be on the lookout, because cool titles like Leisure Suit Larry - Wet Dreams Don't Dry and Solasta: Crown of the Magister Supporter Edition are bound to appear at the Insomnia Promo event at some time (when? We’ll just have to wait and see ;)). So, take that caffeine shot and be on the lookout for great discounted games!

mqstout: "Insomnia sales" = "customer disrespecting sales method and peak FOMO 'pay attention to us' nonsense". I don't get why weirdo people ask for or participate in them.
Because not every sale has to be for everyone. The people who dislike Insomnia can ignore it and will still have about 100 normal sales they can enjoy during the year.

GOG, I'm sorry but this sales strategy doesn't make sense to me... and penalizes customers for early purchases.

ie. I recently bought Solasta during the currently-running Summer Sale.

Why?

Because it was on SALE.

Now you're telling me that if I would have held off purchasing... during this same Summer Sale... I could have gotten a better price on the same game during a flash / promo.

Isn't the strategy supposed to be to get the sale as soon as a game goes on discount? That seemed the point of sales... and especially flash events. Now it almost behooves the customer to wait out the entire sale to see if a better price comes along before purchasing.

Also, you are penalizing customers for buying sale items early (ie Solasta). How is a customer supposed to know that a sale item will be sold at a greater discount later in the same sale?

With that in mind, a strategy that works with flash sales is...

... a game that is NOT yet part of the current sale enters a flash or promo deal. Then, after the expiration of the flash deal, that game ENTERS the general sale for the first time at a lesser discounted price.

That way no one gets penalized for paying you money early. In fact the customer is incentivized to purchase early. IMHO the way you are doing this is akin to a Kickstarter charging at a $50 level and release only being $20. It's weird.

Anyway, just my 2 cents.

ps -- I do understand this is a promo, but again, one would think you had coordinated promos with your Summer Sale prior to everything going live.

From what I recall the second reason they scrapped Insomnia's (other than being unusable by those who have the kind of 'hands on' jobs that don't let them sit in front of a computer all day) was that the server's simply couldn't cope with the massively increased load of everyone reloading the new heavier "post-makeover" website design every few minutes. And this past hour I've seen around 20x GOG-Bears / page load fails and 4-8x longer page load times simply browsing the site / forum, so clearly it's already having the same "impact" as last time...

If I had to guess, then the decision to go with insomnia deals was made on the fly during this summer sale, probably to boost volumes sold and break the ice so to speak. Those 24-72h deals on the front page respected the rule iirc, where they were not discounted prior to their highlight on front page and would go on a lesser discount once the time ran out.

I would imagine Insomnia deals would behave exactly the same if they were part of the strategy/sale from the beginning.
At least during the latter iterations of insomnia sales they did it that way, so they progressed from initial no-discount, to blitz deep-discount, to ordinary sale discount for the rest of the event.

Btw if the price difference with Solasta is considerable, maybe you could consider contacting the support. I'm sure GOG haven't done this to alienate anyone and I for one do hope that these insomnia deals won't be gone for another 6 years or how long it has been.

GOG's servers seem to stagger under the load. Many too many bear and globe pictures.

Indeed. There's nothing wrong with "themed" sales, but Insomnia's are unique in being the only type of sale that can grind the whole website to a halt for everyone. I've had nothing but GOG-Bears, failed page loads, slow page loads this past hour.

Here's a reminder of what the old Insomnia sales looked like on the old lighter-weight site design. :-) Aside from the fact I still think the old green / gold logo is way more distinctive looking than today's, if they tried to replicate pre-2015 era Insomnia's with the same 10-30min timers on today's "media rich" design, the entire website would probably be offline for days...

Is GOG's website hopelessly broken for anybody else right now?

I can't open any game pages. Nothing but gogbears, timeouts, and linking to the general store search page. I'm surprised the forum loaded.
Good job, GOG! I'm ready!
B̶o̶n̶e̶s̶a̶w̶ Jack Keane is ready!

Interesting that we can see the number of sold copies during the Insom sale. Seems like nobody has to worry about the "limited stock" of 15K copies running out :P
Nobody will have to worry about Jack Keane copies selling out either.
It was about time that Insomnia Promo returned and I'm very glad that it's back!
Switch over to the next flash sale seems janky.
lol everything is broken

c'mon dudes
