Novotnus: I realized that I have three different copies of KotOR 2 :) Retail disc, magazine disc, Steam and now GOG.
Isn't that four copies?

That's four. :P

Yeah, right :) I have three Jedi Knights and four KotORs :)

Magmarock: And I'm proud of it. Yes it's another forum sucking up to GOG but I really would rather pay more for that ownership and piece of mind.
I'm very proud of you, my pet dragon :P

ET3D: I assume you mean Outcast and Academy. Jedi Knight is $1.79 currently on Steam (if you don't count Mysteries of the Sith, which is $0.89 and is included in the GOG version). By the way, the Bundle containing Dark Forces, Jedi Knight, Mysteries of the Sith, Outcast and Academy is $5.99.

Still, the Star Wars Saber Bundle is $22.44, and that includes all these and 6 more games, so where does the "ten times more" come from?

Oh, and good for you for sticking to GOG.
The key word is "Almost" ten times more.

MaximumBunny: Basically, you're saying that GOG needs a price match policy with authorized resellers but you support them anyway even if they cost more just based on the ethics of DRM-Free? I support the price matching but definitely won't pay more than lowest prices. ^^
What are you talking about? I said no such thing. I'm saying I'm willing to pay more for ownership.

Well, normally people don't refer to "less than 3" as "almost ten". That's like me saying that my (nearly) 5 year old is "almost graduating highschool".

You do realise that you don't really get ownership. You're still getting a license for personal use. But you do get some of the benefits associated with ownership that you won't get on Steam.

$3 - 2 = 1 that's close to a 90% price difference between GOG and Steam. So I paid about 70% more if you want to be exact about the whole thing.

This is called splitting hears which means being exact for the sake of being exact. No I won't own the IP but on GOG you do own the usage license. On Steam you don't, it's a rental as part of their DRM and their terms of service.

ET3D: But GOG discounts the bundle if you already own games, which Steam doesn't.
avatar
Grargar: Indeed, which is of no help if you don't have any of the games. :P
Or if you don't want all of them and don't feel like paying more to 'save more'.

So you paid 70% more? Less than twice the price?

I didn't mean that you don't own the IP. I meant that you don't own the copy. You actually agree to a pretty daunting and unrelated Disney agreement when you buy a Star Wars game, and for all GOG games the terms of use include the ability to terminate your license, and in any case the license is personal and you can't sell it and you're not supposed to let others play your games.

That said, because there's no DRM, none of this is directly enforceable (i.e., someone would have to sue you if they have a problem with the fact that you didn't comply), and IIRC it was said that GOG generally doesn't have a problem if you lend games or let several people in your home play at the same time.

So legally what you get isn't much better than on Steam, but practically it is. Which is what I meant by saying that you get some of the benefits of ownership.

tinyE: As they say, in the end paying less cost more.
That's what people who pay more tell themselves anyway. :P

Yeah and honestly that adage only tends to work with cars and houses anyway.
