Plenty (like The Prisoner, Babylon 5, Blake's 7, I Claudius, Robin of Sherwood, Miami Vice, Kolchak The Night Stalker, Firefly and so on) but maybe you've already seen them.

About Battle Royale, the only real reason it was so popular was because people started to vocally complain about its subject matter. Which naturally, made more people go read the book and watch the film. The second one does really badly partly because the director died part way during filming and his son took over. His son, wasn't very good at directing. That, and the script was utter rubbish. The only memorable thing about BR2 was the board game sold at some cinemas...

The current "big" film in Japan (and the last one film I've watched) is 「君の名は。」 (Your Name). If you know nothing of the story, do yourself a favour and watch the first trailer (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k4xGqY5IDBE). Avoid all other trailers as they spoil the plot a little too much.

As a testament to how well received this film has been, it is the first animated film not directed by Hayao Miyazaki and not from Studio Ghibili to gross over 10 billion yen (that's about 98 million dollars) and it's done that in just under a month and is still going strong. Not bad for a film that was expected to only gross 6 billion yen. In short, it's a well earned success for Makoto Shinkai.

bansama: ...Makoto Shinkai.
Mmm, wasn't aware of this one, I'll need to check it out. Ever since I saw "5cm/s" I've had this strange urge to watch everything this dude makes, in the hopes of getting a second masterpiece (alas, being disappointed most of the time)
I watched London has Fallen today. It's as great a Call of Duty movie as can ever be. The CGI effects are as awful as in the first movie, though.

Well, there are worse ways to get people's attention, besides, kids killing other kids is the same way Hunger Games got any attention, right? Although I do think BR is better, since having the kids all know each other makes the deaths actually have a bit of weight.

As for the other movie, I don't know, I really hated 5cm/s, how does it compare to that?

I recently watched Shane Black's The Nice Guys. It's a buddy cop action comedy in the 70's, about two asshole private detectives who end up helping people and uncovering a corporate conspiracy, partly out of a desire of being better people, and partly just by accident really.

It's a pretty fun entertaining movie, but I'll be honest, I didn't find it particularly funny. Then again american comedy rarely works on me, so take that with a grain of salt.

Thank you for the recommendation
Independence Day: Resurgence

It was OK, I got what I was looking for: nice CGI, plenty of action and long-missed faces on the screen.
The storyline was quirky, which I like. I actually hope they make another sequel.

The Bait

A shark-attack film with an unusual setting. Australian movie. I liked the movie as a whole, but Julian McMahon's character in the film was just oddly written.

The Shallows

With Blake Lively in a diving suit and bikini I expected plenty of boob & tush on the screen, and there's plenty of that, however there's a really good movie underneath with a unique scenario for a shark-attack movie.

5cm/s is more a compilation of short stories. If you want to compare Your Name to anything, it should be to Children Who Chase Lost Voices From Deep Below, as like that one, this is a full feature length production. To a lesser extent, I'd also say it would help to have seen (and perhaps liked) Garden of Words as one of the main characters, Yukari Yukino, makes a small cameo appearance.

But as for comparisons of plot details, not going to do it. Not spoiling that beforehand really helps you appreciate it when it all starts to come together.
Into the Wild - Superb movie about going your own way.

Wild Tales - Interesting, insightful, humorous, bizarre, sad. This sums up humanity in a way that usually means I'll enjoy a movie. This was had a theme of revenge and people's inability to accept reality.

Agree. Good movie, not gonna set the world on fire. Some physical comedy.

Last night, watched the bluray of Dr Horrible's Singalong Blog - yes you can watch it free online; we didn't, for reasons. About what one should expect from Whedon and that cast. We enjoyed it. Some of the extras were quite funny, especially the fan-submitted applications to the Evil League of Evil.

added, thank you
High Noon. It's a decent western action.
