I just got an email about my origin account being changed. My first reaction was, I had an origin account? I've been avoiding EA like a plague, when did I create the account?. Second reaction was, I certainly didn't change the password of whatever account that was! I don't care about any alleged EA accounts of mine, as I don't use their service at all. But it ticked my curiosity.

So I went to orign website, login, used the "forget password" link and reset the password, then logged into the account to see what was up with that. Annoyingly enough it was in Flemish, which is not a language I'm very fluent in, but I can make do. I looked at my settings, apparently my username was "Masstupid". Yeah, that's not me. Real name in Russian, too. I tried to modify it but I couldn't, a security question popped up... in Russian. Google said, "what is my favorite cartoon". However, date of birth was mine, and country was set to Ireland (which could be legit, as I did live there for a while). Weird.

I contacted EA support next, on that chat of theirs. Yay. I told them my account had been taken over, and the guy went all "your account's security is extremely important to us" and whatnot. So he asked me "my" secret question, which I couldn't answer. Next he sent a confirmation mail, which I could read and respond. Next, he asked for my country, which I could see after checking "my" account earlier. With just that, the support guy was satisfied; luckily they didn't ask me something as basic as "tell me one game on your account" or "when did you log in last".

So yeah, the guy reset my password (again), manually reset my secret question, and bam! I'm now the not-so-proud owner of an origin account. Worst case scenario, EA managed to trick me with an elaborate trick to make me check their service out. Best case scenario, I've gotten an account with a bunch of games from some random Russian. The excitement is killing me. Plus, I got a 15% discount voucher.

Now, how do I check if there are games in the account?
Just log in and check "my games". (I think, that's what it's called, in Origin).

I am afraid the only way to find out is installing origin app.. Someone please correct me if I'm wrong.

as far as i know on the site you may check only games bought directly from origin store.

Just use the account to sign in on Origin, the rest is pretty obvious. Can't go wrong with some free games hopefully.

yeah, I feared that would be the case, but hoped to avoid it.

Oh well, let's try it out.
Well Origin does have a few benefits: The big one being on the House where they give out a free game every month, so if you are into free stuff there you go.

Honestly, I already have more games than I can play. Free shit doesn't do much for me.
If you've ever had a Bioware account, that counts as an EA/Origin account too. And, uh, I'd try to find out what really happened, if I were you...

Despite the odd ball propaganda, it isn't a bad program at all. Plus free games...

The scheme worked!

Shambhala: The scheme worked!
Yes it did.

Apparently, I'm now the owner of C&C4.

I played a pirate copy of it years ago, I didn't like it very much. Plus Syndicate that appears to be free (I have it on GOG, who cares) and something about titanfall.

I checked the friend list and it's empty. Poor Russian dude was a loner, it would seem.

The store page is in Flemish, despite having set Origin in English, and I see no way to switch it. That's annoying.
try My Account -> About Me -> Regional Settings
unfortunatelly I'm owner of origin account myself ; ) not using much though..
The question is why a Russian user would hijack a worthless account and actually stick with it.

Regional settings are in English, country set to Ireland. Store is still in Flemish.

Because of boredom?
