i dont hate gfwl as a lot of people seem to do mostly because its easy to get around with by creating a offline profile

Origin's not bad besides being DRM in my opinion, but it has one fatal flaw:

You can't set the language. It always defaults to the language of the country you're connecting from. So if you live in a country you don't know the language of, EA says tough luck to you, you can't read the text in your own Origin client. Really stupid, I know.
and now contact them and demand to close your account on that awful service

tinyE: OKAY SO....
it took me ten minutes just to log onto my Origin account. JUST TO LOG ON! God forbid I'd want to play or download something! :O

Yeah. DRM is wonderful, XD
The last time I tried to get into my origin account it was a giant mess.I don't remember the details but given I don't have any games left on there I haven't finished, it was easier just to delete it off my harddrive, set it on fire, and slowly drive away.

The fire and driving were metaphorical; the deleting was real. Not like I'm liable to get a hankering for SWTOR any time soon, and even the discounted prices on ME3 + DLC are still way too high to lure me in.

P1na: I just got an email about my origin account being changed. My first reaction was, I had an origin account? I've been avoiding EA like a plague, when did I create the account?. Second reaction was, I certainly didn't change the password of whatever account that was! I don't care about any alleged EA accounts of mine, as I don't use their service at all. But it ticked my curiosity.

So I went to orign website, login, used the "forget password" link and reset the password, then logged into the account to see what was up with that. Annoyingly enough it was in Flemish, which is not a language I'm very fluent in, but I can make do. I looked at my settings, apparently my username was "Masstupid". Yeah, that's not me. Real name in Russian, too. I tried to modify it but I couldn't, a security question popped up... in Russian. Google said, "what is my favorite cartoon". However, date of birth was mine, and country was set to Ireland (which could be legit, as I did live there for a while). Weird.

I contacted EA support next, on that chat of theirs. Yay. I told them my account had been taken over, and the guy went all "your account's security is extremely important to us" and whatnot. So he asked me "my" secret question, which I couldn't answer. Next he sent a confirmation mail, which I could read and respond. Next, he asked for my country, which I could see after checking "my" account earlier. With just that, the support guy was satisfied; luckily they didn't ask me something as basic as "tell me one game on your account" or "when did you log in last".

So yeah, the guy reset my password (again), manually reset my secret question, and bam! I'm now the not-so-proud owner of an origin account. Worst case scenario, EA managed to trick me with an elaborate trick to make me check their service out. Best case scenario, I've gotten an account with a bunch of games from some random Russian. The excitement is killing me. Plus, I got a 15% discount voucher.

Now, how do I check if there are games in the account?
Oi there, Pina pal! You know, you didn't need to create an Origin account! Had you bought an EA title, even in the FARAWAY, distant past and REGISTERED or ACTIVATED game with an email address, then this thing, AFTER Origin came to be, instantly turns into an Origin account, with the details you provided WHILE registering...

This is how i ended with 7 different origin accounts with a total of 3 games in them all (because certain games are not compatible with Origins anyway and i use a multitude of email addresses anyway, all with fake personal info, of course...).

That's a very serious flaw for me, since I travel around a lot. I do have to point out it apparenty happens on the store only, the client interface language can be configured.

The thing is, I haven't bought any (non-GOG) EA titles in... I don't know, but very long. Maybe since Simcity4 originally came out. And I never bother to register online.

The hacking of Origin accounts has been going on for a while now. The EA/Origin support forums are flooded with people who can no longer access their accounts, or whose accounts have been used to purchase games by others. All I can say is: if you have an Origin account and want to keep it, do at least activate the extra security measure that prompts you to enter a code when you first log in on a new computer.
