Is on sale on Xbox for $5. Reviews look terrible, but when I see let's plays, it doesn't look super wretched. So, I'm just looking to see if any goglodytes have played it and what their thoughts were.

Sword Coast Legends is a one big definition of "How not to make an RPG"

Graphics:
Nwn 2 (2006) has better graphics.
And it's one of those games the makes Summoner (2000) look like Witcher 3 on max settings, when compared with SCL.

Gameplay:
Character customization is worse than a free to play MMO.
Slow-paced movement & combat.
Terrible controls.
Worthless loot.

I enjoyed Nwn (2001) more than this.

Thanks for the review! This is a lot of what I saw on the end that made me a bit antsy about it being a waste of time.

This is my first or second thread (I played twice bc the thread the wouldn't show up and the post my message button was just a spinning circle)

I think I'm going to give it a try. I'm not expecting nwn (probably the best game ever made), but I thought a little adventure somewhere new would be fun.

Saying that Summoner looks better than SCL is a wild exaggeration, if I ever heard one. Personally I thought the graphics were pretty decent. Certainly not at the height of its time, but what's that to a true RPG enthusiast? NWN ("the best game ever made") had bad graphics for its time as well.

I'm a huge fan of NWN myself, but I have to say, I found the story in the OC of NWN and Summoner less interesting and the (amount of) combat in both games more grindy and boring than that of SCL. I'd rather liken it to Hordes of the Underdark than NWN's OC, even though the gameplay is quite different of course.

To each their own, but I think games (and especially RPGs) are often unfairly judged because they are different from what the players expected. In this case, it's even the developers' own fault, you can certainly blame the PR for that. But SCL is neither the greatest RPG nor as bad as all the disappointed hardcore RPG players make it out to be. A reviewer once said it would have been seen much more favorably without the promise of the editor and without the D&D label.

That being said, I still can't quite imagine how it would play with a gamepad.

I was wondrin about this game too, so thanks Tallima for asking about it and thanks for the replies.
I'd definitely pay that much for a PC copy, but on Xbox? I couldn't play it with a controller.
I'd say that if a game has plenty of replay value, it's worth $5 :)

Happy gaming!
I beware any game you purchase online for a console... Because compatibility and keeping it is suspect...

It's definitely a "rental." in a big fan of gog, but consoles have their place, too.

Yeah, i'm half looking for somewhere to get another PS2 and older games. But we'll see... 2 weeks and not a single game has been booted up so far.
So far, I'm enjoying it. Loading screens are very long. So it gives me a chance to catch up on my forum reading.

Graphics and sound are decent. Really, graphics are very nice. Not sure what the complaints were there.

It's slow. That's my only complaint.
Thanks for the thread.

I haven't played it, but I was always tempted to despite the reviews. If it comes around for $5 on PC I'd think about it, at least.

The only game I think I've spent $5 on lately is Epistory, though. And that was a splurge. :)
