As an old gamer, I know that I likely belong to the old generation who liked it when games included a little bit of "sexy" in their games. Nowadays this is getting more and more frowned upon.

Do you all think that sexyness will eventually be removed from all games? Do having sexy scenes will only be accepted if there are also non-plain-vanilla types of scenes included ie. male-female relationship ok as long as male-male, female-female are also included?

I liked the sexyness that was included in the Witcher 1 a lot, but that seems to be something that was several generations ago. Something like that would be hounded to no end nowadays.

So is SEXY dead?
It depends on what you consider sexy. Are you referring only to sexual sexy or are you referring to a wider definition, as in "man that car is sexy".

Agrees completely. But don't loose hope. As of late, there are throngs of gaymers (gay gamers) among us. And them demand representation of their "tastes" in games. There are many people eager to please this particular group, because they feel they are oppressed and fighting for freedom and equality. Hell, even the cancelled MMO world of darkness was supposed to have a gay bar and sexy scenes, too. Sexy is not dead; it might soon evolve into HOMO sexy in games, but worry not. It is never going to perish. Usually, straight sorry, hetero sexy in games is bashed, if someone stops to think well about it.

You can't make an omelet if you don't break some eggs, i guess. It the price to pay for not having SEXY banned from inside games, is to suffer the presence and representation of homo sexy too, then i will pick the latter, provided that i can have hetero scenes, too.
Well when you look at Gaming Deviantart its still alve and well.

I am using the word "sexy" in a playful way but I am talking about something that would be defined as "of a sexual nature".

It's probably something of the nature that tends to be categorized as "gratuitous".

I am talking about mainstream gaming though, not Fanart (which has always been very openly expressive).

You do have Rules 34 and 63 of the internet...

I am confused. When exactly would it have been alive ?

That's interesting to hear, but then again, you're in a different part of the world than I.

I consider The Witcher 3 to be more 'sexy' at least visually than any other game I've played. I would like to believe that I'm not a prude and really appreciate it as 'art'.

If it becomes too gratuitous, then it's on the border of being pornography.

Witcher 1 is a good example of it flourishing in a non sex specified game, like the Larry Series.
The "violence=good, sex=bad" idiocity is well and alive in the world of videogames =/

What I personally frown upon is when a group of people try to forcefully tell the developers what they are "allowed" and "must" include in their videogames. If someone gets offended by the lack of M/M or F/F relationship/sex scene in a videogame, than that person needs a life.
Don't get me wrong: I don't mind such realtionships in games at all, and I fully understand and support the representation of homosexual people in videogames, but nobody should have the right to tell the devs what they "must" include in their games.

Sometimes I feel like these people have a checklist:
Hetero relationship? *check*
F/F relationstip? *check*
M/M relationship *check*
(...)
And they try to force their checklist on the devs, or they start burning the internet, calling the game "unjust" -___-
I don't think it has disappeared. It has become more subtle though, and has largely abandoned some of the really silly tropes of earlier gaming (and fantasy/fiction generally) - the infamous steel-plate bra doesn't show up very much anymore, etc.

You are right on the "gratuitous" part. I think the biggest change that has occurred is in the demographics of gaming. I grew up in the "only boys play computer games era" so I just took it all as a joke, but it's not.

The question though is where do you move on from here?

I haven't played it. Now i'm scared.

I remember a cute scene in Sands of Time (did it count as sexual) and Cinemaware's Simbad (a zoomed kiss) and Defender of the Crown (a hug), and also Crash Garrett (a picture with dialogues). But... I don't know, I don't remember a time where it was more present than nowadays - with GTA and Dragon Age or NWN2 (can't tell them apart so i'm not sure which one anymore) or Mass Effect... Also, Witcher is not an old game (no it is not (no it is not)).

I really can't fit that on a temporal axis, or feel an evolution towards more prude games...

Witcher 3 is brand new and seems to have plenty in it.
If you look at European games you see less prudence in general, the main problem is USA when it comes to this and since this market is quite important, some studios seem to adapt.

I never had the impression that video games in general had much "sexy" in it ever though, it always was way more present in literature, paintings (very old and new) and photography.

Well, I for one really love the fact that more and more women are getting into games (and not just that, but computer programming in general). As a result, I don't see any reason why there shouldn't be any artistic limitation as to what they wish to see as well as long as it's done tasteful.

With regards to the Witcher 3, you do get a nice view of Geralt's feet and legs even before you see Yennifer. Now my wife, who was watching me play over my shoulder, noted that she'd like to see more of Geralt. So maybe they need to work more "beefcake" into the story for all the female gamers out there.
Conan O'Brien disagrees.
