The reason most of us are buying our games here at gog.com is - in my opinion - that we can get our games drm free, archive them on our PCs for installation at any time, on any PC and without having to connect to the internet or install unwanted third party software like steam's client, ubi's uplay or other malware/spyware/etc.

Now it seems that more and more they try to push their galaxy client on our PCs :-(... The annoying violett "TRY GALAXY" banner in our library has now finally been replaced with a small blue button on the game's download pages - fine, I can live with that.

But today I have checked the account library page for Galactic Civilizations III (I do that daily since - about three(!) weeks ago a new patch was published on steam; on a side note that's a patch for which we gog.com customers are still waiting for) and found out that the offered installation files for the game are now followed by this note:

The above installer includes GOG Galaxy client for the full experience and the best support of all features for the game, including: auto-updates, achievements.

Until today(?) I always was offered the standard classic installation files.

Now I do NOT want to install or use galaxy and it took me a few clicks to find out that generously gog.com is still offering us classic installers - so far and who knows for how long?

I hope that someboy from gog.com staff is reading this and offer us a clear commitment and statement that they will keep offering classic installation files and not start to become a steam-like site which offers their software and updates through a client software like galaxy only.

Because if this is the way gog.com is going I believe that after purchasing several hundred games from you it would be time to reconsider my future game purchasing options.

The whole idea with bundling Galaxy with the installers and the brilliant solution to the problem they therefore created is like that how to iritate people sketch.

OK, thank you... I admit that I did miss this and it is quite a long thread and will take some time reading ... and maybe popcorn too :-)... What I have read so far proves that there are quite a lot of good arguments and points from many customers who also wish to keep their installation files galaxy free - I do hope that someone at gog.com will keep reading them!

At least it (almost :-)) makes me believe that gog.com will keep classic installers available for those of us who know where to find them for a while.

I still find it rather annoying that they will not provide an opt-out via the account settings. I can understand their point of view that they want to provide galaxy installation files for their "standard and not so tech-savy" customers but if you consider how much time and resources they obviously invest into galaxy (and galaxy installer files in addition to classic files) I believe that they should provide an account option for those of us who want to opt out from using galaxy - even if it is just to prove to us non-galaxy-users that they seriously consider our concerns regarding the continued availability of offline installers (and for the added convenience of not always having remember to click on "classic installers" on the download page of some games).

And sorry, although this post was published to let off some steam because of the unwanted new download page design it was not intended as an additional gog.com vs steam thread :-).
While I agree with you in principle, this: ...is hardly a weekly preiodicity. :P

Yep. I see the points of both sides, but to argue with either is an absolute waste of time.

No worries. Sometimes people forget that not everyone reads these boards daily. And if you use the Search function, it's... less than effective many times.

Which is precisely why I said in the other thread that GOG should put a clear information about the classic installers on the download page. Sure, Rainbow Dragon found them anyway, but he could have just as well assumed there is nothing to look for, and soon enough threads by people thinking that Galaxy has essentially become mandatory will start popping up.

I call that reason complete bullshit.
They have douzends of ways to inform users and guide the experience of less tech savy users. But instead they resort to bundleware methods.

I am convinced the problem is does they need/want to boost the number of Galaxy installations at all cost. The poor user who can not find the Galaxy installer on their own bad designed website is a blatant lie and even IF true has to be managed by other means.

don't worry it will be soon overtaken by a "is gog connect dead" thread :D so we will have some variation :D

"Is the movie section dead?"
is also a classic.
I just saw the new game shelf for Rebel Galaxy and it now says: "The above installer includes GOG Galaxy client." But I don't see an installer that doesn't have Galaxy. So where is the "Classic" installer?

In the "more" drop menu, next to the big blue Galaxy button.
