Click the account tab. Click on a game, and download the installer. That's it. They're all standalone, so you don't need their client.

The installers have actually been simplified from their previous versions. They removed things like the PDF reader, and wrapped the dependencies in the installation itself. You should have seen the old ones.

You can either download the games directly from the library or you can download a GOG downloader app I think, the app is for large downloads I think.

I guess that by installer, the original post might have meant a client/downloader.

its easier to have the gog downloader handle and a 8 gig installer in 4 parts
and a soundtrack
and a manuel
and a pdf file or two
and avatars
and a making off

then clicking on each of those indvidually

The downloader is safe and just makes sure that you are able to get the entire install files. Once the files have been downloaded then you decide when it is that you want to install them. Also the downloader makes sure that all of the files have downloaded and that the checksums match up. That means it makes sure that what you are downloading is actually fully and completely downloaded

It doesn't need a third party installer (aka a client), but I don't think that's what op meant.
But I think too much details kill the simple explanation.

Post 4 sums it all : get to step 1, then proceed by downloading your game installer through step 2. Execute result then enjoy.

It also notifies you if there was errors during downloading, or detects corrupted files... While browsers tend to just say they are done and assume they were successful.

The downloader in my opinion is the preferred way to get files from GoG, although using a download manager like DownloadThemAll does okay too...

He said "I just want to d/l my games. Do I need to download an installer?" It could mean anything, really.

She (?) said all she wants is to download her games, then asked if she also needs an installer, so she obviously talks about some other kind of installer, in all likelihood a general application that is needed to install the games, or in other words a steam-like client, hence my (cryptic) no.
