Should you wish to invoke a dark pulse and sacrifice reality to it, try the following recipe.


1) You must pronounce the name of the four gods :

- The idiot god at the center of the universe, forever twirling at the sound of hideous flutes and abominable drums.

- The great serpent-shaped loa who created all water.

- The nine times father god of death, as he was known by siberians, turks and mongols.

- The monkey god who sought to devour the sun.

2) You should then trace the following on the ground :

- The name of the ancient one dreaming in his sunken city [1]

- The number of children that the norse Njörðr made to his own sister

- One symbol for each fundamental Element [2]

- The name of the Traveller that the Vuldrini saw as a moving torg and the McKetrick as a giant slor

3) You have then to perform the following :

- Sing the name of the god to whom the Phoenician and Canaanites were feeding their children

- Do it once in each direction of the dharmachakra

- Make one step backwards for each chtonian Palaci

- Call out the the black goat of the woods with a thousand young

4) Carefully protect yourself by concluding the ritual this way :

- Pour out one droplet of your blood for each egyptian Ogdoad

- Announce your offering to the assyrian-babylonian ruler of the wind demons

- Invoke the dragon which blood had shielded Sigurd

- Then, very simply, trace a cross in your blood.


Warning, the laws of magnetism might be slightly altered as a side-effect of a successful incantation.

Personal favorites would be the Dream Cycle stories, particularly Through the Gates of the Silver Key.

It seems like a lot, but they're all quite short by modern standards, and can be finished fairly quickly.

Not in, as I have the game, but +1 for the giveaway. (I'd +infinity if I could, just for the sheer awesomeness of the setup!) At the Mountains of Madness is an amazing story. I'd also recommend Lovecraft's Dreamlands stories, which have been collected a few times. (Convenient list/reference here.) They still contain elements of horror, but they're de-emphasized in favor of the fantastic and surreal. (Generally speaking.)
