Thanks so much for your thoughts, everyone

----------
It has been a tragic year for the hobby of peakbagging, especially in the fields of county highpointing and prominence climbing.

Adam Helman passed away in a fire in his home in San Diego on January 9. He was not only a prolific climber, but the webmaster of cohp.org. In other words, in many ways, the heart and soul of the county highpointing community. He was the second person to reach the highest point of all 414 counties in the contiguous western United States. RIP.

Edward Earl passed away on June 20 while on an Arctic expedition. On an attempted river crossing he lost the rope and was unable to be revived when the others reached him about 1km downstream. Edward was not only a prolific climber, but also the author of WinProm, the computer program that calculates topographic prominence. RIP.

Both were accomplished, but their true legacies go well beyond their climbing resumes. I was lucky to call both friends.

In memory, I am giving away 5 copies (to 5 different winners) of Mountain from the Humble store. It is DRM-free and available for Windows, Mac, and Linux.

It is a contemplative "game," perfect for considering your place in the world.

My condolences for your loss.
Not in.
Very sorry to hear of your losses, budejovice.
414 peaks is a pretty impressive feat, esp. considering that Mt. Hood and others in that bunch are significant climbs just in their own right.

Sorry for your loss.

+1 and thanks for the GA but not in though. Does look like a neat little app though.
Not In.

=( I am very sorry and my thoughts are with those who lost their lives and their loved ones.
Truly sorry of your losses. My condolences to their families, loved ones and their friends.
I wish the best to you, and remember that they are now in a better world!

Also not in. +1 for making this sad moment that we all share it someday, better for the winners.
Minor bump. Thanks for your thoughts everyone - I truly appreciate it. I guess in retrospect, this may have been too sad a post, but someone - please - jump in for the games! :)

I'll share some stories of some climbs with my friends at some point this week, happy stuff. (I'll keep this going for a week or so and try to bump it conservatively...)

I wish I could. Alas, I am still GOG only.
sigh - life is short but it sounds like your friends lived it to the fullest extent possible. I hope you keep that faith and know that while our time here is brief, it matters not except what you do with that time :-)

~hugs~ Oh and not in...just wish I could get work at home so I could see my mountain every single day....
My deepest sympathies on your losses!

Not in, but +1 for your generosity!  :-)
