SpeedBo: Just a heads up to anyone thinking of buying this on GOG.
The lead developer (on discord) said: "No GOG release - and any release is more than likely to be Next fall as a launch title on console..."
nvm, I know the answer.

According to this the blame is on the publisher, but either way, it feels like a scam.

It's not surprising the developer blames the publisher. But that's only half of the story, and I can't say I'm inclined to believe Descendent Studios. There's probably some reason why Little Orbit hasn't allowed them to move forward.

After having it for preorder for how many years here? Lets hope gogs legal steamrolls them so hard they don't need a spaceship anymore to descent underground.

There is still one possibility left, at one point Wingman (the lead dev) said he was willing to split the game into two versions. One they make/made, and the other made by the publisher. The publisher version being more arcadey, and Descendent's more hardcore.
However it seems highly unlikely the publisher would go for that to me.

Otherwise.. it could be bad for Descendent Studios.

Apologies in advance for dragging this from the depths of the forum back into the sunlight, but just ICYMI:

https://finance.yahoo.com/news/little-orbit-descendent-studios-reach-130000700.html

"March 10, 2022
Little Orbit Inc. and Descendent Studios are pleased to announce they have reached a settlement to their ongoing dispute. An agreement has been reached for Little Orbit to purchase all rights, game IP, and assets relating to the computer and video game referred to as Ships That Fight Underground and formerly referred to as the "Descent" reboot. Moving forward, Little Orbit shall be solely responsible for the development and publishing of the game."

Ships that Fight Underground Trailer

"Ships That Fight Underground (STFU) is a complete re-imagining of the original six degrees of freedom shooter genre. STFU has been designed from the ground up with meaningful progression, addictive multiplayer battle modes with class-based combat, in game mining, and player generated content capabilities with community engagement.

This game will support Premium, Free-to-play, and Play-to-earn content in a unique hybrid model where everyone wins!"

From the official website:

"Hybrid Gaming Model

Take part in a new Web 2.5 exclusive with game design that supports both traditional gaming communities and the optional integration of blockchain mechanics.

Design your own levels and maintain an active community to earn real revenue from the pilots who have pledged to your asteroid. Bring your community along and build up your forces to engage in corporate war with the other factions.

Buy or earn ships through hard work and determination while you engage in asteroid mining, intense multiplayer matches, 3 player co-op, and missions. If, through gameplay, a pilot acquires a rare Chain Node, they can initiate the conversion of their corporate owned ship into a tradeable Chain ship at no extra cost."

The comment section in the trailer is turned off. Well that bodes well. :D /sarcasm

Interesting news. I thought this one had completely died off. Still hangs by a thread at life, eh?
STFU - Shut The Fuck Up (We're taking everything from you and then piss on you). Volition, Parallax, Interplay, Descendent Studios, Little Orbit... damn, it's worse than my own family. :D

I still freshly remember the Parallax V Interplay debacle and why Descent was taken away from the stores... and then due to a sudden instance, Parallax was abruptly silent after complaining here. Interplay still owns the name Descent so no wonder they had to drop the name and just call it STFU.

"Where every one wins". No, unfortunately, not everyone!

Descent 4 is still dead, and every single game Little Orbit have is "Free to Play, Massively Multiplayer, MOOBA". Not going to touch that soulless crap.

Also: DO NOT PLAY SHIPS THAT FLY UNDERGROUND
Didn't Little Orbit initially hold the game hostage because they wanted all rights to it for pennies on the dollar? No, thanks.

Well, it seems like the publishers have got the green light to fill it with microtransactions and NFTs. It's been off my radar for years anyway, but I'm definitely not interested in this.
