At least so I was told over and over again, for not robbing everything from every house in town XY.

Hahaha, well, my choices actually depend on what decisions I've made earlier in the RPG.

Right now I'm playing through NWN as a Lawful Good Paladin, so I hesitate when it's a random crate left in the woods. Next RPG I go through, though, I'm gonna be playing as a rogue-type, so I won't think much about picking the pockets of everyone I come across ;-)

It depends on the character I'm playing, but usually I play as a heroic goody-two-shoes and I don't rob even if there aren't any consequences. I try to stay in character, since it is role-playing after all, even if it means missing out on gaining XP here or missing some gold there.

LMAO. To put some games into real life perspective is pretty funny at times.
That was great. D

There is another video floating around about how gamers eat. I gotta dig that up.

This used to be "Second Life" imitated in real life
yah, i often wonder when playing rpgs why they allow the player to rummage and steal everything not nailed down. some of the better ones have the npcs react and have a fit if you do but most they just sit there.

RPGs, the modern sociopathic-kleptomainiac simulator! If it weren't for inventory limits I'd probably be hauling a few thousand tons of stuff in almost every RPG I have played.

I do believe that some of the Ultima games (VII is one that comes to mind) and even the Elder Scrolls games such as Morrowind have NPCs report you if they catch you looting in their line of sight.

You'd have to steal a few horses to do that.

Oh, except then you have GTA series, you can steal a few hundred horses at once. :)

Excellent, the bit where the hero is still walking at the peasant was a true highlight.
Yeah, I remember stealing everything I could in Divine Divinity, and in that game that meant pretty much everything period :D However, since those days I try to be a better roleplayer, and I don't steal unless I think it's absolutely necessary, or it's from someone I feel my character would have no issues stealing from.
Well, depends on the game:
In the Elder Scrolls games you`ll get punished for opening chests in cities, so I don`t do that. But in games where you don`t get punished I open every chest and destroy every barrel I come across!
Fuck being honest and noble, I want loot!!!
LOOOOOOOOOOOT!
If you put gold in a barrel outside your house, then you deserve to have it stolen .
if rpg player were not able to loot everything, then game would be called linear

Not if you're charged interest on capital gains over time.
