Steam Update...

OK steam just got back to me on this issue. Yep because I used another account to gift them to me (while I had waited for them to fix glitches that stopped me buying from my normal account) during the winter sale. It had set of their fraud alert, just is a very slow fraud alert obviously.

They have re-gifted the games back to me (well about 40 out of 49) but sadly I can't seem to add to my account the gifted games. I get odd errors, so no joy just yet.

Just to add irony to the mix, for the last few days I've not been able to buy games on steam, the same "An Unexpected Error has occurred" that I had during the winter sale. Steam support did a copy paste feed back the other day which didn't fix it waiting for them to come back again on that.

Adding extra irony, the games I got rid of that I had on CD due to buying them on steam weren't among the ones they regifted to me.

So as it stands I still got no where. But I do advise that even if your account is stuffed and you can't buy stuff, don't use another account (even if it means missing out on the sale). It will end in grief otherwise.

Steam Update
Ok have been able to redeem the games re-gifted to me by steam now. So got all the games except for 9, so haven't lost any money in the process which is good. Sadly the games I got rid of my discs due to the steam buying are included in that nine I don't have, murphys luck. Will wait for next sale and try again.

Currently I have another steam issue which means i get an "Unexpected Error" everytime I try to buy a game on steam, for any payment method, same thing that drove me to use another account in the first place. So waiting for them to fix this over a week later now.

Good for GOG though, I guess I'll redirect that steam spending here.

This can happen for a lot of reasons. For me it usually happened if I forgot to tag the 'do you live in the netherlands' thing on the way out. Sometimes rarely due to something else. Usually when it happens it'll take a while to time out and trying something else seems pointless till it's resolved. For me it never lasted more than an hour.

VPN use and the like may trigger it as well.

Sounds like you should contact Gabe Newell.

Yes I had it in the past and I'd leave it a few hours. The last few times I've had to contact steam support and wait for them to do something (undisclosed behind the scenes). I definitely didn't use a VPN, and I think it has become second nature clicking the Yes I live in Australia, though I didn't know it let you progress without ticking that. Frustrating as I see a couple of games and DLC on sale and I'm just watching the countdown clock approach 0.

Might be a good idea. I'll give it a few more days of desperation then might just do that.

Finally I'm able to buy games on steam again, but do I want to. I'll try and spend more on GOG though. I've had better support experiences here.

On steam if your account is stuffed during a sale, don't try and work around it, just gets very messy, just grin and bear it.
In the end they still didn't tell me why my account couldn't buy games. Just said that they updated my account. So I assume it had some sort of lock against purchasing.

Uh, your post on Feb 4th gives a reason?

They downgraded the account I'd used to gift from as when out of curiosity I logged into it had a big warning sort of sign. I had them disable it completely to be done with it. My main account that I couldn't buy with had no such warning, seemed like the same buying problem I had back when I got into this mess months ago during their winter sale. I assume it is some sort of purchasing / fraud lock but don't know for sure or know what triggers it because steam don't really tell you.

So in all likelihood I'll get the glitch again with purchasing some time in the future since I have no idea how it avoid it.

Ah right, mixed up accounts there :)
Thread operator, why didn't you make this good thread here, a few months ago?!? I bought from Steam F.E.A.R. with a heavy heart, because i wanted to complete the series and own it whole, and now F.E.A.R. has come to GoG! My god, what the hell, HOW CAN I UNBUY IT from there?!?
