Basically I'm just asking how important the internet is to the Diablo 3 experience and how an offline version would likely do sales-wise here. The game isn't an MMO but there are in-game services and interactions with other players that make use of the internet correct? How important is an internet connection to the experience? I know the game is currently online-only as a form of DRM.

If GOG got a chance to sell an offline version with either online services gutted or optional, would it likely sell well here? Please post your thoughts, especially if you know a lot about Diablo 3. (I'm of the view that if GOG eventaully gets Diablo 1-3 + all expansions, the top-most wishlist vote could be completed, even if the mentioned "Soundtrack and maybe some wallpapers/art" weren't available.)
There is no Diablo III without an internet connection. Never will happen.

There is. On consoles.

I thought they removed the always online requirement after customer backlash?

Nope.
The console versions of D3 are offline-compatible. There's some unique features and differences, but the game content is largely if not entirely the same. I've been playing the PS4 version and haven't played it on PC, but as far as single player goes, it seems like I'm getting an identical experience aside from using a controller and different-looking menus.

Ah. Well there you go, then.

This is the kind of answer I was looking for, thanks. I was wondering, IF GOG got the chance to bring a DRM-free Diablo 3, is there enough content that can be enjoyed without an internet connection to make it worthwhile.
Diablo 2 first dude.
I'd for sure buy an offline D3. Mmo's hold no appeal to me.
I never touched the multiplayer in Diablo 3 and I think it'd work great as an offline-game. There needs to be some solution for seasons (mainly when to start or end a season - I don't care about leaderboards, chat or whatever else there is), but that shouldn't be too complicated.
I don't really care, i just want D2+LOD and then forget about Blizzard. D3 is complete and utter trash and i have tried both Vanilla/Expansion of it and i don't think i have been as disappointed by any game.

Yeah, Diablo 3 evenwithout the "nned to be online to play " to play issue was considered a dissapointment.
Remember the whole micro transaction fiasco where they tried to mix buying stuff with game money with buying whay amounted to DLC with real money? Boy, idd that backfire.
Torchlight came out about the same time, a a great many game reviewers pointed out the modest small indie game was alot more fun then what Blizzard came up with...(mayve that the original Diablo disginers did Torchlight had something to do with that.

The game can be played just fine without internet/in SP(on console and perhaps also on PC)....so perhaps.

Oh I remember various controversies though I don't really care about Diablo personally I remember them in vague terms. I was wondering more about the feasibility of an offline D3 - how much not-online and singleplayer content there is, what would have to be gutted and how it would still hold up compared to the current version, questions like that.

Somebody familiar with WoW humor me too: could there theoretically be a single-player WoW or is too much of the game focused on bosses too tough for a single person to beat (amongst other concerns)?
