darthspudius: I would love it to be a little bit earlier, the disco era perhaps.

Elmofongo: Personally I like a GTA like game in the 1960s.

I have a fondness of the 60s. To me it was the true modern age decade.
Personally I like the 40's. Big cars, suits & hats, jazz swing music everywhere, tommy guns! \m/ lol

Wasn't there one already released that was set in the 60s? It would've been before GTA 3, I don't have a ton of time to Google right now but I remember one that was named GTA 1969 or GTA London 1969, something like that. Of course that could just be my memory playing tricks on me, and it would've been 2D anyway.

Speaking of that, did you ever get a chance to try those Godfather GTA clones? I wanted to but never found a single copy anywhere.

Oh yeah! I love that style. Mafia 2 is a very good game for that era.

I have the impression that Mafia 1 is better. Mostly because they cut off driving. Passing a red light will alert cops.

Speaking of which have you tried L.A. Noire?

What do you mean "cut off driving"? If you mean you have to follow common traffic laws, The Getaway and The Getaway: Black Monday has that too. You can't speed, run red lights, drive on the wrong side of the road etc without gaining unwanted attention. Heck, in the first one you can even use your turn signals! Great games, GTA clones with a far better narrative and great presentation, very cinematic (in a good way), such as the absence of ammo counters, lack of health bars and no onscreen maps etc..

Sorry I did not wrote it correctly.

I meant that traffic laws in Mafia is not as strict in Mafia 2. Which kinda ruin the athmosphere and just appeals to GTA players that just wants to drive through everything.

To get ahead in crime sometimes you have to act lawful evil. Completely disregarding all laws including trafficwill only make it harder.

Thats my impression of the Mafia games considering their more realistic tone and gameplay.

I have LA Noire but I haven't played it yet. Is it good? Mafia I have not played either but Mafia 2 was a very well made game. A great story and their is a lot of charming qualities about the game that GTA can only dream of.

Its certainly the best modern Detective game right now. (I am sure there are plenty of adventure games following this genre)

The cases are really well done. But at times you feel like you have to explore every single detail to find every clue. Problem of course is no replayability since the cases are fixed so you know when a person is lying or where the clues are. Unless you purposely neglect certain clues or fail at dialoge (whether a person is speaking the truth or not) to see the different outcomes than go ahead.

And yes there is gun skrimishes but those are side activities. My dissipoint though is that I feel I am forced to kill all bad guys instead of shooting them non lethally to apprehend them. I am assuming thats what cops would do in a gun fight. At least apprehend one guy.

Is the dialogue hard to comprehend, I've never been great with that kind of thing haha.

You have to look at their faces and hear the sound of their voices (yes the facial capture is brilliant and kind dissipointing they did not reuse it for GTA 5)

Sometimes its obvious they are lying (Awkward pauses, eyes looking left and right nervously, etc) but sometimes they can also be increadibly vague and subtle in their expressions that you cannot tell if they are lying.

I didn't know they went into that much detail. That sounds pretty disturbing in a way lol.

Obligatory mention of Sleeping Dogs, if you haven't played it then get on that! Fantastic story, gorgeous graphics (even the "old" version) the ability to parkour around, and Batman: Arkham style combat.

The city itself has plenty of things to do, tons of races to take part in, fight clubs, the ability to buy cars/motorcycles, plenty of clothing stores selling a range of clothing styles, the ability to buy food from street vendors, clubs to find and sing karaoke in, and random events like chasing down purse thieves or escorting a drunk away from a store, just to name a few activities.

I know some people were disappointed by the lack of gunplay (it's there, but fairly rare) but the hand to hand combat is absolutely fun and has a lot of depth, and there is just something amazing about being able to lock a enemy into the trunk of a car. I actually did that the other day, free roamed for a while, found three thugs hanging out in a parking lot, so I shoved each of them into a car trunk.

That is some awesome detail, though the facial expressions are creepy. I would of loved to of seen this used in GTA V.
