It seems that you're using an outdated browser. Some things may not work as they should (or don't work at all).
We suggest you upgrade newer and better browser like: Chrome, Firefox, Internet Explorer or Opera

Honestly. I think it could even be better then steam. You can even connect to other Steam players? THAT'S AWESOME! I think GOG Galaxy can turn out to be a great thing. What do you guys think?
Obvious rep farm much?

(I know I sound like a newb, but what is rep?) And no I'm not trying to farm anything, I just want to hear people's opinions about Galaxy.

It's that little number under your avatar.
You could swap out 'rep farm' with 'brown-nose'.

Spoken like a true veteran of the forums. While I don't think it's the case this time, I understand why you're so jaded :\
GOG Galaxy is not amazing in its current state. Too many bugs and too less features (As I said in another thread: Without cloud saving it is useless for me.)
Perhabs it will be amazing in future but it's not amazing now (at least for me).

I suppose you're right, I've just seen too many circle jerk style topics not to be jaded.
I don't find anything "amazing" about it, but yeah I like it
nothing is amazing in beta stages, we shall wait and see what the final version looks like.

I'm more excited for what its going to become rather than what is is right now :D
I've got a feeling that it can only get better from here on out lol.

Being new, it has some issues, and it's brought some unwelcome changes (uncompressed downloads... grr), but I think it's a good thing overall and will help move DRM-free gaming forward.
what's it going to become?
Genuinely curious

I also thought it was amazing, but after seeing the stickied thread, apparently we're the only ones.

At least they did a good job with the UI or maybe I'm just too easily pleased. I haven't encountered any problem though.
The largest percentage of functionality and code delivered so far is just a hamstrung copy of chrome.

Most of the functionality delivered so far won't work locally (so.. why have a client?), and it's going to be an extra chore to stay on top of security updates for something with a large surface area like a browser.

The sensible thing would be to maintain a local cache of whatever state you'd need from the server about the account or whatever.

Using a browser to access things like web forum makes sense, but I don't see the point of doing it inside Galaxy instead of the browser you already have that will already work for that.

I *do* appreciate that they're trying to create a smarter downloader as part of it. I don't appreciate it requiring eula acceptance in order to download software.

I *do* appreciate the idea of being able to conveniently roll back to older versions of games. I *don't* appreciate the restrictions on where to set the install folder.

I don't appreciate the current requirement to log in every time I launch Galaxy (consequently almost never). I *do* appreciate that it's not fully baked.

Etc.

It's a big mixed bag. So far, though, it seems like a lot more technical weight being taken by gog developers for a relatively small benefit in functionality.

If Gog team added the multiplayer to the ancient games that exist in Gog (Empire Earth for example), in a way similar to Gamespy/Gameranger, up to a scoring system for achievements (type Retroarchivements or Truearchivements) then, if it will be really great, is still in beta, will have to wait, for my part, as soon as they add these two options i uninstall Steam in 5 minutes.
