There is a sequel to Romeo and Juliet and a remake of the superb Time After Time among the upcoming tv shows.

I know I'm kicking a dead horse, because this is all that is happening now, but I feel like I either make this thread or go and shout from the rooftop, and it's night here and it's dark and I don't want to fall and die.

A sequel to Romeo and Juliet. Seriously. You can't just make a period piece, you need to try and sequelise Shakespear. If it wasn't so stupid I'd almost have to admire their balls. But Time After Time hurts me even more. The original is such a fantastic movie. The premise (H.G. Wells follows Jack the Ripper who used his time machine to the present day) sounds so silly, but it turns out to be a seriously thrilling and charming movie, with superb roles from Malcolm McDowell and David Warner. A clever, original, perfectly cast movie. So let's fuck it up with by dragging it out to insane lengths as a TV show with a bland, "sexy" new cast.

What, you still have some faith in humanity left? Well then, gaze upon the Tetris Movie Trilogy. I could not make this shit up.

Oh, and they're remaking the Witchfinder General too (I wonder if anyone else here even knows that one), because if there is one thing the world need is to see Vincent Price roles recast.

Nice to meet you Paul.
Why'd you stop?

I couldn't think of a rhyme.

Well, just say the first thing that pops into your mind.

If you don't know the reference, click here. ;-)
Go ahead [to lazy to read OP). Some people believe the earth is flat and the "round earth theory" is a major global conspiracy . Go figure...
I'd like to add this:

The soundtrack is a regular in my playlist, just noticed that I was ninja'd by rpgknight in the music thread:

In other news, there is also an Emoji Movie in the works, Jumanji remake is coming up fast, and the new Ghostbusters continue to be the most unfunny thing ever put to screen (that doesn't feature Adam Sandler).

Go home, world, you're drunk.

Oh, I definitely know that one. I've got loads of Vincent Price, Peter Cushing, Christopher Lee, and other similar actors in my DVD collection.

Incidentally, did you know that Witchfinder General was retitled "The Conqueror Worm" in the U.S. in order to form some vague attachment to Edgar Allan Poe?

BTW If you buy Shadow of the Comet from GOG, you'll definitely see a familiar face or two! :-)

johnnygoging: jumanji remake.
I am fine, if they put "remake" next to it. Jumanji is one of the best kid movies I know, if they don't label it clearly I am gonna send Robocop after them. Original Robocop, not the cheap remake.
I usually detest remakes, reboots, whatever, I (generally) hate the concept of re-hashing shit that's already been done most likely better than it will be re-done.

The most appalling, atrocious, sacriligous, puke-in-my-mouth inducing EVER has recently been announced. They are remaking

ROCKY HORROR PICTURE SHOW

NOOOO NONONONONO!!!
You only just started now? I've been doing that for years.
on a positive note, here are some remakes that I have liked:

Solaris - kind of re-envisioned, done a bit simpler and not as great as the original, but still pretty excellent and holds its own

Vanilla Sky - a remake of Abre Los Ojos almost shot for shot with the exact same actress giving almost the same performance, and I think it blows Abre Los Ojos OUT OF THE WATER. I find Abre Los Ojos a bit disjointed (not in a good way), lacking passion (she's just not that into him), and overall mediocre. Vanilla Sky has EXCELLENT chemistry with Penelope Cruz and Tom Cruise (cruz and cruise!) and to me, it all just comes off phenomenally with a punch in the heart that isn't existent in Abre Los Ojos at all.

The Killers - Top notch modernization of a classic, and now itself a classic. Don Siegel hits it home.

Baron Munchausen - There are 3 versions of this that I know (a 4th being a short from 1911 that I've not yet seen - Munchausen, The Fabulous Baron Munchausen, and The Adventures of Baron Munchausen) - the latest being Gilliam's from the 80s. They are all excellent.

shit, there was another I was going to mention and now I forget

Then there's things that arent so much remakes as they are complete re-adaptations. First there was Kurosawa's Yojimbo, then Fistful of Dollars, then The Last Man Standing. Good stuff (I find Fistful of Dollars over-rated but still good.)

Great movie, but the thought of a remake? <cringe>
