So I've always loved this kind of music... but I don't know what to search to find it... I've heard it's called Gothic Americana, Southern Gothic but I'm not sure. Here are some examples. I love the deep acoustics, the pounding kick and floor toms and the chains...

... I can't post links... this is stupid...

Okay Awake O Sleeper by The Brothers Bright and Blood and my Name also by Brothers Bright
Lift your head Weary sinner (Chains) By Crowder
Ain't no Grave by Johnny Cash...

Again, I love this style of music but I don't know what it's called to find more similar to it...
Have you ever tried last.fm site? if you're sign up and sync your music player their also giving another similar artist recommendation. hope it help you out.
I just googled "Gothic Americana" and it took me straight to last.fm with this....

I'm a big fan of this style, but I haven't rebuilt my library of music since my last computer bit the dust so it'll take me a while to get you a good sized list of bands of that style, so please send a PM so I don't forget!

Until I have time to give a bigger list here are three recommendations off the top of my head with one specific song recommendation for each
Marissa Nadler: Daisy, Where Did You Go?
Nicole Dollanganger: Hair Lockets
Michale Graves: The Eternal Haunting

Marissa Nadler is pretty much the star of the freak folk (as it was called when I got into it) scene, the last two recommendations are a little less Americana-ish but they're still freak folk or dark folk or whatever the cool kids call that style nowadays. And yes, that is the Michale Graves who sang for late 90s/early 00s era Misfits, his solo work is great.

I can definitely recommend Woven Hand and just about anything Lonesome Wyatt is involved in (including Those Poor Bastards) in that tag pool.

Did the hard drive commit suicide? Otherwise you could easily take it out and put it in your new machine if it's a desktop PC. If not, you could still retrieve the data from it some other way. I have hard drives from my previous two computers in my current one, and data from every single one I've had, including my first PC from 1993.

I can recover some data (using Recuva) from it but not anything useful like my music or save files or whatever, but I'm thinking it might have something to do with my external hard drive enclosure being junk and/or near death itself. I might pick up another external hard drive enclosure just to make sure but it looks like the hard drive itself is mostly gone, it shows up as a unformated drive that can't be accessed via Windows (although Recuva can search it). Trying to access the hard drive via Windows freezes my laptop (it unfreezes when I disconnect the enclosure) after a while but that happens when I try to use other hard drives with this external hard drive enclosure, so the enclosure itself is probably to blame there. If you have any tips or suggestions please feel free to PM me so I don't derail the thread haha.

I feel your pain, same thing happened with my first laptop some years back. Didn't keep backups at the time, so I lost everything. Some stuff I never got back and it took forever to rebuild my music library.
