Since GOG started promoting the Galaxy client, I can't download the Galaxy client, can't download the games with browser, can't download the games with the GOG downloader. It looks like cdn.gog.com actively refuses my connection. I have submitted a support ticket regarding the problem of the Galaxy client many days ago but got nothing from them.

Half a year ago I've reported a similar problem which was their CDN refused showing any picture and css and script on the browser and then they fixed it. Now it's my games! OMG, Hey GOG guys, you are using a terrible CDN don't you know? If I were you, I've replace this garbage CDN already.

Is anyone here experiencing the same problem? Using a VPN solves the problem but since I'm also using steam, I'm not going to use a VPN often. And further more, using a VPN to download the game costs more than re-buying the game on steam.

Oh GOG please fix your server OK? It's Terrible.

Thanks to BrandeX for the working solution in post #8 (I can't post links at the moment yet so please scroll down to post #8)

Thanks for the reply.
So does it mean they are not going to fix it?

I don't know, I hope they do. All you can do is make a ticket, so that they know this a big issue, which affects many of their customers.

If their IP is blocked by the Great Firewall, GoG probably can't fix that on their own. What is blocked and what is accessible is decided on the Chinese side. So GoG probably has to negotiate and find someone on the chinese side willing to help fix the problem. ... And, like anything where a government and bureaucracy are involved, that may take a while. So better use the workaround and make use of a VPN.

Maybe you are right, but it's totally zero problem for years before GOG started using the CDN, and besides, Steam, Origin, Uplay and Desura are all OK at most time, although sometimes Origin and Uplay servers are slow or temporarily unreachable, but it does not happen too often. I don't think they have anything violate the China Firewall's policy, it must be something related to the CDN that caused the block by the China firewall. I believe it could be solved or at least optimized on GOG's side.

I have 0 problems with GOG in China. Why? It's actually only a DNS issue. Change your DNS server to something else than the default one from your Chinese ISP.

Protip:
Use this handy automatic hosts file editor - https://github.com/huhamhire/huhamhire-hosts/releases

and most of the internet will work normally again inside China without the need for VPN/Proxy.

OMG! You really saved my day! It worked!!! I changed my DNS to one of the free public DNS servers and now it's working. Although GOG downloader still can't download anything, Galaxy client update process was very slow, but finally Galaxy client and direct download are working now. Thank you so much! Sorry I can't mark your answer as solution since I've already marked one before you replied.

How did you get a PRC (China) location tag? The rest of us have ROC (Taiwan) location tags, and PRC is not a choice in the list in profile settings.

Good question... I just checked under https://www.gog.com/account/settings/personal and the PRC doesn't appear for me either, it displays "China, Republic of".

IIRC in the past, before the new "MyAccount" was available, it was possible to change the location which is displayed in the forums under http://www.gog.com/forum/mysettings. But now it's not there anymore.

Guess my PRC location tag is just a relic from the past ^^

Once again, my deepest thanks! I'm currently in China again and since downloading games directly from the website didn't work, I tried your workaround again. Not only did it work for the website, I can now also download games via Galaxy (which is a huge relief, since downloading large files from the websites results 99% in corrupted files). Thank you!
