Elmofongo: I am almost finishing the Hobbit book and I like it alot and even watching the movie did not damn my opinion of either book or movie.
But the Lord of the Rings books are way different from the movies so I just wish to ask one question and question is did the LOTR books fleshes out and offers more back story than the films?
For one did the books explain more about Sauron? Because in the films he seems more one-dimentional like "oohh here is a bad guy, that we never know why he is a bad guy and why is he doing this, what drove him, etc."
Don't spoil anything just tell me at least the books have more backstory?
Nastasha and Piere get married eventually, I think - its been s'long since I read it. But the Lord of the Rings books are way different from the movies so I just wish to ask one question and question is did the LOTR books fleshes out and offers more back story than the films?

EDIT: Oh ... no wait! Wrong massively long and tedious novel that everyone MUST read ... :-)
