pezhead53: Wow, there seem to be a lot more "Junior Adventurers" out there than I thought. Well fortunately, our wait may almost be over. The other day I sent an e-mail to Nimbus wondering why things had been rather quiet from them lately (lack of newsletters, little/no social media presence since mid-January).
They sent me this response:

"Colin,
Thank you for your email and concern.

We are in the midst of a large distribution agreement, which means we are
very busy working on integrating sdk's and preparing for release on PC :).

We will keep you informed.

Your Support Team."

Nothing was mentioned about GOG, but still this is awesome news!
Very cool! (Yes, I had noticed things had been VERY quite lately.) I'm trying to remain cautiously optimistic; as odd as this may sound, I hope they feel like they need GOG as a good distribution tool for this. (I mean theoretically, they try to could handle all this themselves, couldn't they?)

I'm hoping that, if things work out, we get both Nimbus's versions (assuming they are not SCUMM) and the SCUMM originals. And, of course, the soundtracks - I may go ahead and contact Team Fat about this.

------------------------------------------------------------

I finally went ahead and sent a message to Team Fat about possible releases of the original game music (the lo-qual stuff that has a high nostalgia factor); I was worried they might try to use this desire as "leverage" and try to raise the price of game releases above 5.99 or 6.99, but I was also worried NOT saying anything might result in missing an opportunity for release.

Oh well, if a music deal can't be worked out, I or HumongousSoundtracks will just provide the tunes on each game's page, or explain how to extract the music.

So I heard back from The Fat Man. :)

Hi! Glad you like those Humongous games--they are great, aren't they? I do own some of the rights to some of the music. Questions: Are you associated with GOG, or are you "campaigning" in your capacity as a fan? Is there compensation involved? THANKS! :)

I basically responded enthusiastically but said I couldn't provide much meaningful info given that I wasn't a GOG staff member. I also provided GOG Contact page and asked if there was anything else I could do.

I haven't played this game since I was a little girl and I came by a picture of pajama sam and it was so familiar so I decided to search it up and I found this video. If it weren't for our old computer braking, i think I might still play this game with my older brother.
-kroolandwart

Pajama Sam is more than just a game, he's befriended Darkness himself and beat him at an edible version of tic tac toe, he has single-handedly broken weather, and put it back together! And, he's put everyone from a food peace confrence onto the same side and called out no war. Pajama Sam, i respect you.
-mdlegoboy

Man, this game defined my childhood. I honestly believe this is where my love of "jazz like music" came from.

You really need to stop to appreciate how good the concept of this particular game was. The idea that weather is essentially a business is such a fantastic, and original idea!

As a minor follow-up to my last post, I e-mailed back to Nimbus asking about what digital distributor(s) they would be using. This was their response:

"Colin,

We considered Stream [sic] but they do not have any content for children.

We'll shortly announce who we have chosen for a partner in this :).

Your Support Team."

I specifically mentioned GOG in my e-mail, so things seem to be a definite "maybe" for now. Even if it doesn't turn out to be GOG, I'm still ecstatic these games are at least becoming available for digital distribution somewhere and not just lost to the ages (I'm looking at you Lucasarts...)

You're right, I should be very happy that these games are being preserved for the PC. :) (I shouldn't get my hopes up too much, either, in case it really isn't GOG; it would just be tough after all this effort on our part, since as big GOG fans. :P)

I'm been doing some thinking on this, and while this would make me sad, I wonder if Nimbus would be better off going to a place like Big Fish Games or some big-name place that's more "child-friendly". It's a little frustrating for the 25-year-old fogey in me because I'm guessing they have little interest in the "good old games" crowd (kind of leaving behind those who grew up with them) and want to just target the 3-10 year old market.

Those of us on their Facebook page and through email have tried to establish GOG as a good place for these games, but if they don't think Steam is very kid-friendly, I'm not sure what they'd think of GOG. (Heck, I'd personally be happy if they just brought the SCUMMVM titles and promoted the updated graphical versions elsewhere.)

Oh well, if this doesn't work out, maybe I'll see if I can help out DCT bring the Sierra "Kid" Quest games here. :P

Not sure what you mean by "updated graphical versions". The games released by Nimbus on mobile devices are (as far as I'm aware) the same game as the 90's PC/Mac games, but with various tweaks to make them more user-friendly on touch screens. Last time I checked, you can even use iTunes to get the game files from the iOS release and play them on ScummVM.

Really? I had gotten the impression that Nimbus had "re-created" the games to run outside of the SCUMM engine, like DOS vs. Windows versions of games, and maybe had touched up the original artwork to look better on bigger, widescreen monitors. But maybe not...
Just did a quick "test" with my 1.5.0 ScummVM copy. It appears that of the Nimbus releases, only two can be played. The original Atari version of Saves the Zoo, (no longer available for purchase) and Dry Cereal. It seems as though the others could be played, but ScummVM hasn't been programmed to recognize these rearranged/updated files. Also the graphics seem the same to me, attached is a side by side comparison of the CD-ROM and iOS releases of Dry Cereal's Town Square.

Hmmm, well it certainly appears you're right about the artwork; it definitely looks the same. Thanks for doing those tests.
With the Atari promo this weekend, I figured I'd bump this, since Atari is the one who owns the Humongous Entertainment content currently and has licensed it out to Nimbus Games. :)

As always, please remember to vote on the wishlist and (if you're reading this but haven't posted) post a message of support here. Thanks of course to Barry for the links below:

Just noticed that there are a few HE games missing from that list Barry made. I've taken the liberty of putting them here:

Putt-Putt
Putt-Putt: Pep's Birthday Surprise
Putt-Putt's One-Stop Fun Shop

Freddi Fish
Freddi Fish's One-Stop Fun Shop

Pajama Sam
Pajama Sam's One-Stop Fun Shop
Pajama Sam's Games to Play on Any Day

Fatty Bear
Fatty Bear's Birthday Surprise

Big Thinkers!
Big Thinkers Kindergarten
Big Thinkers First Grade

Junior Field Trips (with Buzzy the Knowledge Bug)
Let's Explore the Farm
Let's Explore the Jungle
Let's Explore the Airport

There's also all the Backyard Sports titles like Backyard Baseball and Backyard Soccer, but that series continued long after HE closed it's doors, so there are far too many of those to list. Plus most of the later Sports games have real major league players in them, which would probably make it a nightmare to get all the rights. The same thing would probably prevent a re-release of their Blue's Clues games as well.

Plus if you really want to help show your support for this company, you can buy the already-on-GOG (and on sale to boot!) HE title Moonbase Commander and/or the Total Annihilation Commander Pack and Total Annihilation: Kingdoms (+Expansion), which were also made by Humongous, but under the name Cavedog Entertainment, as they didn't want to inadvertently market these T-rated games to toddlers.

Yeah, this would be really great to see. While they're at it, why not add the Junior Sports games as well? It would probably be more difficult for the later releases, but at the very least I'd like to see the original Backyard Baseball and Soccer on here. Maybe Basketball if we're lucky. It would be troublesome, though, for most of the other games with the licensed teams and pros, most of which are no longer playing. I also don't know if Atari still owns the rights to the Sports games or not. I'm not giving up hope, though.
"Humongous Entertainment had the absolute best computer games."
