Orkhepaj: probably steam wont go away in decades, so not much point in backing up those games

Timboli: Yes and No really.

Often it is about drive space, especially on your PC, and especially if it is a smaller SSD.

I imagine it is still much quicker to reinstate a Steam game by copying from a drive, than have Steam install it all over again. And it doesn't have to be a DRM-Free Steam game to gain that advantage.

At times I have read here, where some say that Steam installs faster than Galaxy does.
That may be true, but it still takes a while, and an Offline install would or should be fastest of all.

You also need to take into account, that Steam updates itself when it first starts up, and I can often download a GOG game in the time it takes for the Steam client to do all its checking and updating.
dunno , internet dl is now faster than copy from old hdd to another hdd

Dogmaus: If Steam fails to the cancel cult we won't have time to play. Sure. It doesn't make sense to me, but you are the one speaking like you are in a cult here.

You reckon. You must have a pretty slow HDD and connector in that case. Maybe you also fail to take AV into consideration.

And like so many, you think only of yourself in these discussions. Many of course, still don't have a lightning fast web connection.

Anyway, I still call bullshit.

Take off the blinkers.

nah, probably motherboard is responsible for slow copy speed
Sorry for the necro, but it should be on topic:

Just a note though, be careful when buying from humble, their “drm free” definition is looser even than gogs and they are not always updated or up to date. For instance, one piqued my interest on the main page, BeamNg drive, looks like it is a forza horizon type game, but it’s early access on steam, so probably no installers as yet, and it says things like authenticate online to get updates and such like.

Not just that, the games you buy during a humble bundle name your price are the same ones that you will have access to. No updates years down the road.
I have a fair number of Humble Store games, though only DRM-Free ones, many of which also came with a Steam Key.

I stopped buying from them a few months back though, due to poor support and lack of being able to trust them. They say the issue does not lie with them, and even recently, after a few months, offered to refund for the game in question. That last bit is good I guess, in some ways, but I would prefer to have a good copy of the game.

No idea why it is so hard to get a good copy. The download failed the MD5 check after many repeated downloadings using different browsers and downloaders. Just to be sure it wasn't just a wrong MD5 value, I also tested the zip file using 7-Zip, which reported an error. So the file is definitely corrupt. Clearly they had a good copy at some point, which matched the listed MD5 value. Why they can't find that copy or get again from the DEV/PUB I don't know.

Anyway, while I did not pay a lot for the game in question, I could have, and I could even have played the game and gotten partway through and then not been able to proceed any further due to a file corruption issue. I could not imagine waiting for months to resume play with a good copy that might not be able to resume where I left off ... talk about spoil the game experience. I wouldn't want to risk that with a truly good game, so how can I trust Humble to get their act together quickly ... I simply can't. So with that in mind, I feel I cannot any longer buy from them.

P.S. Many of those games I have bought from Humble, do get an update now and then, so it isn't true there are no updates, though there is no detail about the updates.

I recommend people stay far, far away from Humble DRM-free games that are still receiving updates. I got scammed with World Box - God Simulator; the developer, Maxim Karpenko, pulled the plug on the DRM-free download build just because he doesn't want it available for download anymore. Obviously, no more updates for it, either. Maxim Karpenko seems to be ignoring messages about this shady decision on Discord and Steam. I wonder why?

I'm also interested in BeamNG.drive while it's on sale. I think I'm going to take my own advice because Humble doesn't seem to punish developers or publishers for not updating the DRM-free builds, and also their removal of DRM-free downloads from customers' libraries willy-nilly.

Not only there is almost no support, there is no forum so if something goes wrong you are on your own and you can't ask anything to other users before purchase. Anyway I prefer to keep my games here...Humble is the only one that had a few Android drm free games but those releases are slowing down now.
