I have a question of how to install a fix patch on here. I need to download a patch for Metal Gear the MSX version.

After installing will it automatically integrate with the game file or do I have to graph it over the original game download file?

or do I need to do it manually by dropping the update file into the game file directory? This is the first time I've had to download a patch for a game I want to make sure I do it correctly the first time. Any help would be appreciated.
If it's a gog-patch file it's basically an installation exe file. run the exe, it will find the game and patch the appropriate files.

Later a new 'master' file will be set and the patch and older version will both go away.

It is automatic then. Thank You. Just wanted to make sure.

Correct. This again assumes it's gog's patches/hotfixes. If it's a small patch (hotfix) it may say there's 10Mb to update it (even if it is much smaller).

Note: it will say which version to what version the patch/update supports, if you have a particularly old version the patch may not work for you and you may have to download the entire game all over again.

I had two update patches to download. One was 3MB The other 135MB I Just downloaded them both. Neither of them had a date attached to it but both had the same version of 1.0 RDNA AMD fix. Although, one patch just said 1.0 RDNA while the other just had the title metal gear. I didn't know if I needed both or if the 150MB version was the newest so I just downloaded both. I Just booted up the game it seemed to work perfectly fine. Just played it for the last hour.

Not having MGS i am not sure myself what the issue is. But AMD fix the smaller one is a dll/driver replacement and the larger either a framework or texture fixes to make it work.

A quick search on RDNA gives me the amd page including:
RDNA is the architecture powering AMD’s 7nm gaming GPU
If you didn't have an AMD card you probably don't need it.

It looked like this. They both say patch fix.

I was thinking the same thing earlier. I remember reading something about that patch before was only for certain types of gaming pc's. I have an Intel i5 core. Over the last few days the game refused to boot, it would just go to a black screen I could only hear the sounds it makes when I move the arrow keys. Plus the controller settings on the game settings menu wasn't responding except to keyboard controls. I normally play with a controller. After downloading both these files its working normally. The MSX screen comes up and then goes straight to the title screen. If these patches aren't for intel I don't understand why it seems to be compatible.

It's for the GPU (Graphics card) not CPU.

And it looks like it's mostly newer cards. MGS uses DirectX 9. The 135Mb patch is about the right size for an entire DirectX installation.

I Have no idea what type of graphics card my laptop has I was assuming since its an intel it would just have intel integrated graphics card. The most graphic heavy game I've been playing as of recently was Ion Fury I haven't had any slow downs.

UPDATE I did find my graphics card on my system it is a intel graphics card.

Likely an integrated chip. Wasn't aware you were using a laptop.

They will do basic 2D & 3D but nothing fancy, more than likely anything you lack for a GPU the CPU will take over through Direct X probably. Linus Tech Tips talked about it a bit. But for Metal Gear Solid, it wouldn't be for much concern.

As for why it would have fixed the problem i couldn't tell you.
You are better off saving your save files for the game and uninstalling the old version. Keep the old(just in case) and grab the entire latest version and install it. Plunk your save files into the new and that will avoid any screw ups and broken elements unforeseen.

Anything you have difficulty tracking in terms of version, this method will certainly help such people.

I Think I did reload a fresh version of the game with the patch integrated into it. I'll include a screen capture of what I downloaded.. The downloads included a patch and also what seems to be a fixed version of the game itself, I think it graphed the fresh version over the old. Metal Gear wasn't functioning at all before I downloaded the patch now it does work.

I did some reading last night what exactly my graphics card can handle till it reaches capacity. I went to the intel website they had a section of games this laptop can run. intel 3000 graphics card can handle games till 2012 anything after that either won't be playable or will struggle. I Think the only reason I can play Ion Fury a game from 2018 is that it was modeled after Duke Nukem the same people that worked on Duke worked on Ion Fury they probably used similar graphics to Duke 3D the visuals do have elements as Duke 3D does. After thinking about it over night I think it graphed a fresh fixed version of Metal Gear MSX if you go back to the screen capture I included, one of the options was metal gear fix RDNA AMD 1.0 I think that was fresh patched version of the game that was what fixed my version it just graphed over the old one. Its still functioning with save states same place I was after finishing the game. I'm grateful for the advice it helped me avoid a possible mistake.

That would come down to what effects/features the chip/card would have, as well as the number of polygons it can calculate per second. Newer games tend to have more and more and more polygons which it would indeed struggle with, though there's no reason there isn't some games that have fewer polygons, a number of 'retro' games that go more a PS1/PS2 look would work perfectly well. Then some games would have a polygon quality detail from Low to Ultra High. A matter of balancing the quality vs the speed.

Some mods however go way over the top. For Nier Automata there's a mod to make 2B's ass have 300k polygons... Yeaaahhhh....
