How can indie by genre of themself, developer can be an indie but a game, this isn't even possible.

Genre was suppose to classify what game is about..

Like shooter, hack and slash or rpg.

Shooter = you shoot things.

hack and slash = diablo style game

rpg = game that focus on story more then anything else.

So i am wondering another thing, why nowdays when game comes out instead of being classify into one type of game it is classify into 4 or 5 catagories.
Example of this is witcher 3, instead of being named as rpg, it also take place in the adventure, exploration, action ( how the hell this can be a genre even ), rpg ( nowdays all game are rpg nowdays, despite the fact only few of the them really are), indie.

I really have enough of that that bullshit.

I just found that diablo 3 instead of being classified as hack and slash, it is action game with rpg elements. The is a simple name for it, hack and slash.

Are we going back in the proper naming of genres or what.

Next we know, the total war game will be called rpg, since they are character development there.

I really do not know where world of gaming is going..
it aint
just like anime isnt a genre its just a catch all term to let peopel know what niche it falls under

yeah but that cawfee tastes like shit
You spent all this time as a GOG user, never posting, only to end up posting in the forum out of frustration after over three and a half years over "indie gaming" not being a genre in your eyes?

Thats a lot of mild rage that could have been better spent!

I'm not too hip on the "indie" scene; I tend to avoid it and the label unless it happens to mean "great game made by relatively unknowns" - which to me is too often not the case.

But as far as games being classified in more than one way, I think that's only natural. This isn't the 80's/early 90's anymore; many games are a combination of what has come before and aren't necessarily limited in their scope.

And I've always thought, if you really want to push things, pretty much ANY game could be considered an "rpg" in the sense that you play a role in the game, even if that role is "yourself." It's not real life; you're stepping into the game and playing a role in it. But it would be ridiculous to call every game an rpg because of that, because "rpg" historically means - well, you know what it means, I guess.

So I agree with you, but I don't. I do think trying to over-define something is counterproductive, but old labels can also tend to not be sufficient.
who said it was a genre

Not sure how much my perspective can help, but I'll try my best.

I view 'Indie' as a label. Many consumers rely on labels to get an idea of what they're going to purchase.

Since I'm seeing drinks in this thread, let me bring up beer. Beers, much like games, come in all different (and lovely) forms: Barley wine ale, Pilsners, IPAs, Double IPAs, the deliciousness doesn't stop. In this instance, I'm going to compare an Indie game to a Homebrew beer. Some people, myself included, like to see the heart and soul that went into the product without the AAA standards we see on the market. Fortunately for me, Indie is a general enough term for that.

Hope this helps.
