Way to take my words out of context to make me look like a jack ass! You know damn well when I mentioned drinking goats blood it had nothing to do with RTS games!

hmm... that explains why i still suck at red alert, after the 3rd goat.

sniklefritz5: I love turn based strategy games. The Civ games are some of my favorites and i practically spent the 7 hours after i bought Alpha Centauri playing it. I also really like RTS games like Age of Empires and Star Wars Empire at War. But it seems that when it comes to the multitasking of real time strategy games I'm lacking in skill :/ I'm always spending time watching the battles instead of gathering resources or creating buildings. Any tips?
Switch the gamespeed to the lowest setting (at least when things get too hectic for your taste), and save often. That always works for me, everything else comes kinda automatically.

If you were talking about multiplayer matches, then I have no idea. Maybe train your mouse-clicking speed and dexterity by practicing it eight hours every day, with real live mice! If you are not quick enough, they will bite you!

You can return the favor by teaching me how to get better with Civ-type of games. Whenever I try to play some Civ-clone or Master of Orion/Magic or somesuch, I get overwhelmed by it all, not really understanding if I am supposed to watch those statistics screens regularly, and what exactly I am supposed to do at which point.

You'll never learn how to play if you do that.

ZFR: It definitely doesn't mean that fast clicking is important in RTSs.
Of course that it is. Best example is marine split versus banelings. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v2wmdLr0U1E

Of course it is. I agree and never said it's not.

Read my post. I was saying that the fact whether or not fast clicking is important or not is not implied by the statement "If two opponents are equal in every way, except one can click faster, the one that can click faster will win".

I don't know how would that even work. If they are equal in every way, it implies that they have the same micro skills.

Depends what one means by "learning to play". I've beaten the single-player campaigns (hardest difficulty setting, if there was such an option) of RTS games like:

- KKND Extreme
- KKND2: Krossfire
- Total Annihilation
- Age of Empires 1-2 (including all the expansions)
- Age of Mythology + expansion
- Warcraft 1-3
- Starcraft + Brood War
- Dune 2/2000
- Emperor: Battle for Dune
- various C&C series games (can't recall them all...)
etc.etc.etc.

If you are referring to e.g. online multiplayer, fortunately I have zero interest to it. I play only single-player campaigns. Even skirmish mode against computer seems kinda pointless to me, like playing Counterstrike or Team Fortress against bots.
