But, well, I'm not an expert on anything but an Australian mentioning his gun skills to a Russian online, presumably without having the slightest idea about his true identity, doesn't constitute an actual death threat in my eyes. I guess too few people have seen 12 Angry Men, sigh...
Oh, "I'm really good with a gun so you should apologise if you know what's good for you" is still a death threat, I think. It's just a ridiculously stupid one (especially as a response to a 2 years old thread -.-)

Personally, I think it's a case of negativity begetting negativity. Just my personal experience, but this used to feel like a place where the people running the site had genuine respect for their customers. Within the last year and a half, starting with the infamous Good news!™ post, GOG has gradually stripped away everything that made this site special. Naturally, this led to a LOT of negativity on the forums. Perhaps these percieved "betrayals" of GOG's own core values led to a shift in the attitude among the users.

That and the GamerGate thread, which has devolved into a mutual down-repping fest. Now the cancer is spreading across the forum, as both gaters and antis have to bring their squabblings into every single thread.

I always think this is so evident that it doesn't need to be mentioned anymore since it was part of the upbringing of most people anway but either it wasn't or people simply refuse the whole idea:

I got a whole Machinima made about me once with The Movies software in response to a lukewarm review. This digital character shows up speaking with the voice of a teenager and screams incessantly for five minutes about how 'gay' I am.

It was awesome.

I've been shot at. Twice. In real life. You don't see me crying about it. In fact, I laugh about it. Some people just can't hit the wide side of a barn door.

Take those threats, the insults, the losses, all those poisons that life spits in your face, take it all like a man (or woman, trans, or non-binary 'other-kin', if that's your M.O.) and move on.
