Sent an e-mail to John Morris asking if he had considered releasing Chaos Overlords on GOG.

Sent an e-mail to Mindscape SA asking if they had inherited the rights to Entomorph and the Dark Sun games, and if they were considering a digital re-release.

No word back from either of them yet.
Asked Klei Entertainment about Shank 1-2 and Mark of the Ninja coming to GOG and they said that they had no plans for that at this time.
I tweeted Ryan Warden, external producer on the Mass Effect series:

@LesPaulDuJour Now that GOG.com sells new games, is there any hope of the Mass Effect series being released there?

He responded:

@Barry_Woodward never say never, but I'm not aware of any plans to that (mass) effect

Vote for the trilogy on the wishlist:

Mass Effect
Mass Effect 2
Mass Effect 3

To follow up one of my earlier posts, Hotline Miami is now officially coming to GOG:

I'll definitely be picking this one up here.

gandalf.nho: The creator of the 3D Catacombs series (ones of the very first FPSs) and owner of the source code started a kickstarter about porting the series to Iphone and I asked him about selling the original MS-DOS ones in GOG and he answered me today, they just reached a agreement with GOG and soon we will able to buy the games here.

DCT: Nice, nice indeed.
And how! Been wanting to play this, hoping for a GOG release. I'd rather not mess around with DOSbox, y'know.
I'm trying to contact the team that made Queen: The Eye. Let's see what happens

Wow, big necro.

Interesting, but I would think there would be huge legal hurtles given that Queen's music is used.
I asked Richard Ashdown, the creator and writer of Queen: The Eye, if he knows who holds the rights to Queen: The Eye. Here is his response:

"hi - yes. They are owned fully by Queen Productions Ltd. ie the Band"
I have contacted Himalaya Studios through kickstarter to ask whether they would consider offering King's Quest I: Quest for the Crown (VGA Remake). Here is what has been going on for this title:

Question 1:

"Why don't you consider to contact GOG.com to put King's Quest I: Quest for the Crown remake released there as well (bundled with the current King's Quest titles to reach a wider audience)?

By doing that, in time you can also release Mage's Initiation and the rest of the games on GOG.com as well.

I would appreciate if you share with me what you think.

Best"

Reply 1:

"Hi,

Because Activision owns the rights to King's Quest and we signed a non-commercial license agreement with them, we unfortunately can't put our remakes on GOG or other distributors. Even if we could, they've been available for free all these years and don't think it would be fair to suddenly start charging when we haven't actually changed the games.

However, we definitely want to get Mage's Initiation onto GOG and think that could definitely be in the cards in the near future!

Rachel"

Question 2:

"Hello,

Thank you for your prompt reply. However, many of the Activision titles already contain both the originals and remakes. They never actually sell the remakes, but just offer the remakes as a bonus for those who buy the original ones.

For example, Police Quest has both the original and remakes together: http://www.gog.com/forum/police_quest_series/police_quest_14_updated_orginal_ega_pq1_added

Also there is a high demand for King's Quest remakes: http://www.gog.com/forum/kings_quest_series/originals_and_remakes_petition/page1

So I am pretty sure if you contacted GOG.com, they would add King's Quest remakes as bonus freebies to the original ones (no legal problems). I am reading the forums closely, so trust me, King's Quest remakes keep being mentioned every now and then.

What do you think?

Best,"

Reply 2:

"Hi ,

Yep, I see where you're going-- and we actually almost HAD a deal like the one you're thinking of-- but Activision's lawyers didn't see it that way, unfortunately! The remakes you're referencing for Police Quest are also official ones that were done by Sierra back in the 90's; all stuff Activision owns the rights to.

Even if we included them as freebies, someone is still paying to get the other games-- see what I mean? Activision just provided more legalese than a small indie team can bear, haha.

We'd like to work out something with Activision in the future but for now the remakes will have to stay at $0, and we really want to focus on Mage's Initiation which is 100% all our own. :)

Rachel"

"Dear Rachel,

Thanks again for your reply :)"

Anyone have an idea who owns the rights to the Legend of Kyrandia games? I'd like to do my thing for the team but I have no idea who I should try and contact!

Wikipedia says Westwood made and published it, and they were bought by EA, so I'd place my bet on them.

According to the ScummVM wiki,

Negotiations for the release of the source to Kyrandia (and possible freeware release) have been conducted with Electronic Arts LA. The original code and assets from the Westwood-era have been confirmed to still exist on backups.

Action has stalled, mostly due to confusion over the franchise ownership and licensing. As of the last update, EA has reconfirmed their ownership of the rights.
According to this recent thread, the actual IP rights ended up in Paramount's portfolio, EA only owns the source code.

oof, now that's another terrible mess. :/
I recently tried to bring these two games:

-Mushihimesama (Bug Princess)
-Mushihimesama Futari (Bug Princess 2)

There are more CAVE's shmups on the wishlist other than those.
I also posted those pages on shmups.system11 forum, but I'm aware that convincing CAVE to make a PC port of their library is almost, if not entirely, impossible due to their marketing's decision (focusing on Mobile games).

At least I did something than nothing.
I have sent many emails to people and companies that own and or made games I would like to see here.
I have had a few positive responses from people saying that they would like too, but there always seem to be "publisher problems", "rights issues" or "something to look into".
So far none of the companies I have emailed have delivered a DRM version of the games I am after here or anywhere else, except Bioshock in a HB, but I would say that was more of a lucky coincidence then any input from any emails I have sent.

I have even been sent a handful of Steam keys for games. Which you have to see as either an ironic dismissal of DRM-free or something of a misunderstanding?
