I said it before, I'll say it again: GOG should provide devs/publishers with a Humble Store-like widget, so they can advertise the GOG version on their websites more prominently.

JudasIscariot: We hope to see this update very soon on GOG's shores :) Please be patient and no, Flippfly has NOT abandoned GOG :)
avatar
Pardinuz: Wow! That reply was faster than the game's pace. :)
Way to tackle negative speculation.
It's because the devs responded very quickly to my question regarding the new feature and I would not want folks jumping to conclusions when I had concrete information that I figured I can share safely :)

JudasIscariot: Well, it's their call :) As long as they support their audience here I think we can live without being mentioned on their page somewhere :)
Maybe you're okay with being a "not worth mentioning" company, but I'm not satisfied with being a "not worth mentioning" customer. Which is how it comes across when they act like my support of them through GOG is essentially worthless.

Until they improve on this regard, any time they flip me the fly, I'll flip them the bird. :)

The thing is that Flippfly is also not using Steam's widget, but merely a link, so I doubt it would change the situation (at least in this specific case).

For those that use Humble widgets- the developers get 95% of the split as opposed to standard gOg 70% split. A consideration?
I'm definitely glad that FlipFly isn't abandoning GOG, and I'm sorry for spreading negative speculation, but I still stand by IAmSinistar's sentiment. It saddens me that most developers and studios treat us GOG users like crap. I understand GOG's point of view on this one, for the store it may be good enough to have devs actively supporting and keeping their games up-to-date in here, but I, as a satisfied and kind of loyal GOG customer, feel slightly offended when my store of choice isn't mentioned on this or that official game page, when I know for a fact they sell it here.

I could name a lot of other examples of this, like my most recent purchase, Super Time Force Ultra, which doesn't have a mention to GOG selling it anywhere on the official page, despite being sold here since almost day one. And this is but one single example, there are loads more.

I understand the developers' economical mentality, "Steam and Humble are more profitable", and whatnot, so you don't need to remind me of that, but I feel like the studios are treating me as a second-rate customer, as opposed to those who buy their games on Steam or that Steam-key-reseller that goes by the name of Humble Store/Bundle/Whatever. GOG is getting bigger by the day, our community and user base is growing, and, to me, not mentioning GOG on an official game page, despite what GOG's (obvious polite and corporate) position might be, I am a GOG customer and I think I'm entitled to a treatment at least as decent as those who buy their games from Steam and other stores.

Having said that, kudos to FlipFly for not abandoning us GOG users.

[EDIT] Again, I apologize: it appears Super Time Force Ultra's official page *does* mention GOG and even has a link for download, albeit calling them "Good Old Games". I should have been looking more carefully.

Hey all, Aaron from Flippfly here.

Just to re-iterate: Nope, we haven't forgotten you all ;) We sent over builds to the GOG team last night, and they should be published soon. We're doing our best to keep the Steam and DRM-Free builds completely in sync and updated on the same day whenever possible.

Failing to mention GOG (and Humble, and our website's account page) in our newsletter was definitely an oversight on our part - sorry about that!

Thanks for the response, Aaron. It's always good to see the devs here. :)

Us GOGnards can be a pretty passionate bunch, so you can see how we don't like being slighted. I hope your future announcements will be broader and encompass all the vendors who support you. Neither gamers nor developers are well served by impressions that the gaming market is a monolithic entity with only one vendor who matters.

And thanks for keeping all versions of your games current!

From a dev's point of view, how can GOG make it easier for devs to get patches to users in a more timely manner, whilst keeping the DRM-free installer aspect? From what you know of GOG Galaxy (if GOG has talked to you about it), do you believe it will help bridge the gap between the time Steam gets the patches and GOG gets/applies the patches? (Or is do you believe waiting is simply the cost of having DRM-free installers?)

Those are the new default "no avatar" icons; they are drawn from a pool of the same image but in different colour combinations. It's part of GOG's migration to the new Galaxy interface for the website. You'll see bits of that if you try to change your avatar or log out and then log in.

And still the logo is grey...

Did I miss an announcement about this new interface? Otherwise, I don't really see the Galaxy connnection :/

No announcement, it's something we've sussed out from various changes and glitches. The new login panel is one piece, the problems* with the avatars are another. There is also the merger of CDPR accounts into the GOG account system. It all points to Galaxification underway.

* problems include users being set to older avatars, those older avatars being of low quality, and attempts to upload new avatars resulting in blurred and inferior images
